The stuff you need is a rigid fibreglass which is called OC703. It is usually 2" thick. If you come over to my place I have shitloads of it here that you can have for free! :)
Not just oc703. That is a named brand and is more expensive than other similar products. Acoustic cotton from sensiblesoundsolutions is pretty good quality and price.

I just bumped a thread for you Greg....lots and lots of links...:) Condensed Fiberglass...giraffe posted it.

There's a window behind that Auralex.

Is that an MD4 i see?

My recommendations:

One of your biggest problems is going to be the two big french doors behind the mixing position. Presuming you don't want to lose the doors I would recommend a set of heavy drapes for the entire back wall. Also the window.

Bass standing waves form between one corner and the diagonally opposite corner (because it is the longest dimension in the room) So you must take care to treat one end of each diagonal but it is not so necessary to treat both. So rather than treating each of those small corners in the lower right put one above the corner where the Big TV is (which as others have suggested move out of the corner since the screen is a big hard surface).

The floor is another big problem area since it is hard tile, particularly if the ceiling is also a hard flat surface. The cloud above you is a good idea but you might also want to put down a nice looking thick rug in the middle.

Yes! That was my first digital recorder! :)

I really loved that machine until i kept getting disc lock errors and others. Kind of ruined it for me, but its a great little machine. I have been using an MD8 recently for recording a band, another great machine but sooooo temperamental, i have been losing loads of material because of disc errors. They don't seem to take too kindly to being moved around. Kind of a bummer for a portable device. Great machines though.

Okay thanks for the tips.

Hows this look?

OTOH, and with all due respect to my dear friend Mr Inno, most top studios have hardwood floors. The first reflection off the floor to the mic is important data for the brain to calculate where something is vertically in the soundstage.

Looks good Greg! Try and make the two rear wall traps the same size if at all possible.
The rug/ or whatever on the floor is good for general mixing conditions, however a hard floor can be beneficial in the areas of recording acoustic guitars.

What you have drawn up Greg is a great start! :)

I loved my MD4 as well, I kept on having the disc lock up on me as well and had to pull the cover off and manually pop it open. I still use it occassionally to track my drum machines!
I actually wanted to upgrade to the MD8 but they weren't available so I went for the BOSS BR1600.

Thanks Gorty. Yeah all the corner traps will be the same size. I just drew them shitty-like. :o

And I don't do no hippie folk acoustic guitars. :p

All I can say is that a cloud over the drums did my drum recording a alot of good. As far as mix position goes I know they say keeping things cemetrical is important. I think you have to get a good compromise for doing both.
It's does not have to be expensive to treat unless you have to make it look nice. Then the price goes up:D

Nice space you have! French doors too!
