I've narrowed my choice of pre-amp/mixer to these two pieces... simlarly priced there's not much in it so in terms of pre's which one will produce better quality recordings??

Thanks in advance!

If specs are to be believed, the PV6. Of course, buying based on specs could be much like having a bridge for sale. Hard to say without trying both of them.

I have the PV8, the big brother of the PV6. IMHO, the pres sound significantly better than the pres in my M-Audio FW1814, and are slightly better than the ones in a FIREPOD. As far as consumer grade pres go, they're outstanding, IMHO.

For whatever it's worth, the preamp appears to be a JRC 4565 op amp.

Data sheet for the 4565:

To find that out without completely disassembling the mixer required careful use of a camera with a zoom lens, a flashlight, and a mirror (then reversing the photo)---what a pain---but I wanted to know out of my own insatiable curiosity. :D
