So, I'm catching so far either standard medium ride or full ride...Good!
I hate power rides!
Hate 'em!
Me too, man. They have that real mid-range heavy "Klang" to them when you strike the bell....almost like a school fire bell.
As I've gotten older, and gotten away from the "power" stuff, I found that I tend to look for cymbals that will sound great in virtually any playing situation, and that's what I like about the Signature Full series of cymbals - you can cover a lot of bases and still have a really musical sounding cymbal.
I rmember years ago, I had an old handmade Zildjian K flat ride, and all these Jazz guys thought it sounded awesome. I hated the damn thing. I had bought a used drumset from some guy whose son had played in the 60's, and when i went to get the set, I got whole stack of cymbals (we're talking about 10 cymbals - a lot of Ludwig Paiste's (some were decent, some were utter garbage.) and the guy just threw the cymbals in because I bought his crappy Slingerland kit for $150.
So, I sold the K for a little over $100 to a local jazz player that I knew, and was happy about that!

The guy loved the cymbal, and I just saw no use out of it - sure I set it up on my kit, just because it looked cool to have that extra cymbal. I mean, my kit looked like Ginger Bakers with all of the "doubled" cymbals on the old time cymbal stands....remember those Phil? The ones that had the solid rod for the top shaft? You could put a cymbal on the tilter, and on the section below it.
BWahahaha!! If some of these young guys saw the shit we had for cymbal stands back then, they'd die laughing. Of course, I thought I was in Blue Cheer then (during the early 80's).
I remember I thought it was a big deal when I bought that used extra-hefty NORTH brand Hi-hat stand!
