Sometimes I run stuff through it just cuz it sounds richer when it comes out.

For outboard EQ I swear by my Altec Lansing Electro Voicette Subtractive EQ BUT it's only 2 channel, they don't make 'em anymore & they don't come up on ebay much. They're relatively cheap though - I bought mine for AUS$60.
Looks good in a rack too!
