Functionally obsessed.
I occasionally see 8-track MX5050 machines for sale in my local craigslist. I'm considering getting an 8-track machine sometime in the next six months, and I think that an Otari would do me well.

I'm curious to know, though, whether if it's at all possible to pair my M-30 with a MX5050-8. Does this machine have a toggle to select +4 or -10?

Are there any other considerations? Any gotchas?

Thanks!

In the manual it says that it's +4dbm or -8dbm switchable.

If you get one, send me a PM and maybe we can compare notes. I have one that needs some preamp work and I haven't had time to get into it, but everything seems to be working. I'd love to see if there was some way (short of a $3K custom head) to turn this into a two track using the full 1/2 " tape. What a mastering machine that could be.
