Now we're talking. Major improvement in clarity, balance--everything! Nice hook in the chorus now that I can hear what you are singing, catchy.

Amazing what just a little EQ 'carving' can do!

mix 4

almost makes me think of 'thick as a brick' the way it opens...
nice clean capture on the acoustic

i think the opening the way it is on mix 4 works great.

the vocals on the 1st bridge are pitchy....
i'd tighten up every one of those backup tracks...
the rest of the harmony sections all get in the groove in a different way,
it's just that first couple of harmonized sections that seem off.

the low end seems a bit weak, i like the tone on the bass, but it seems a bit rolled off in the bottom

nice arrangement.

Overbloated, poorly-sequenced, and not as funny as it thinks it is? :D

Mix 4 is a lot cleaner than the earlier one. The only nit I have now is the vocal pitchiness/hesitancy.

I think there's a big improvement in the mix between the first mix you posted and the last one Mike. It's a cool melody and I like the arrangement - you've cleaned up that mud and clutter over the course of the mixes.

The drums are the main thing that still sound off to me. They're kind of brittle sounding, maybe a little busy and I feel like the hi hats are kind of disconnected from the rest of the drum kit

The lower pitched left chorus harmony could come down a hair too.

Sorry, you're probably sick of this one now after all the revisions. I enjoyed the tune.

I went straight to mix #4.

Acoustic guitar has a nice sound. I'd have gone for stero micing in the intro instead of double tracking. Just me.

I like the vocal sound. Nice and clear. Like the double tracking.

I think the vocal and drums are dominating the guitars. The guitars are fighting and losing. The mix is kind of crowded.

The bass and kick are hitting very forcefully. To me it's too much for a song like this. A lot of it might be the bass part. A smoother, more melodic part might smooth out the low end.

Shit man, mix 4 is sooo much better than where you started. It really is starting to sound a little more open but more focused at the same time.

I didn't read through all of the comments, but I've been listening to your various mixes the last few days, and wanted to let you know that whatever they're telling you, you should keep listening to them. lol I consider this a big step forward. There's still a bunch of stuff I'd do very differently, but then I think we have very different aesthetics, and I'm still not 100% sure what you're going for, so...I always find your tracks difficult to critique for some reason. Not sure why. Anyway, I played this mix, and thought, wow, that sounds better than anything I've heard from him? Just wanted to share that.

Sounds good. The acoustic can still come down significantly (in volume), though, and you wouldn't lose much and would probably gain even more clarity/openness. The snare is starting to poke out more and sound a bit boxy.

Thanks for the listens and comments!

I agree with the drums/high hat comments, this is the first tune I've ever done in 6/8 time, something I totally wasn't ready for!

I'm a bit late but this mix sounds more open and more in tune with the feeling of the song. Great job though, some slight improvement might be further needed as others have pointed ,but the main vibe and feeling is present. great song again :)

This all sounds good to me. nice and simple.

I'm listening on a pair of headphones and the bass guitar sounds super light in the mix.

Besides that it's sounding pretty solid.

Yeah, I just listened in my reference room (my truck on the way home from work today), and I did lower the bass too much for my preference. Thanks for listening.

A lot of noticeable changes from the first mix. It is opened up much more and the arrangement isn't stomping all over itself. Vocals still seem dark to me and I would like to hear them with more articulation. Bumping up the 2khz range a little.

Whatever you did with the piano sounds great. It shines and sounds so good on a song like this.

The kick might be adding some mud, maybe you can notch it tighter. But honestly, it could be my room, too. This would be a good example of how the low end translates (or doesn't translate) from one system to the next. It probably sounds great in your room and little muddy in mine. Neither is right or wrong, it's just on the hairy edge of being different.

Cheers,
