Where The River Flows

DI sound wasn't one of those jump-out-at-you "bad" DI sounds... in fact, it was hardly noticeable.

What's this about you being a bad guitar player? Nah :) Great voice as usual... interesting, story-telling lyric. When south is where you need to go, why does the river go where it flows... nice ideas.

Sounds like something chrisharris might pat you on the back (several times, and in several ways) for ;)

Nice tune Jag, well done! Guitar sounds pretty damn good for DI. I did however notice that you decided to spend ALL the money instead of sendin me half! I sure could use it.... found a Taylor 314ce "limited" yesterday with koa back and sides for $1450. I'll have to sell a couple of guns to buy it. Good job and enjoy that guitar... glad to see you got what you wanted.

Dude, I flat out don't believe you that it's DI'd.

Yep, I'm calling you a big fat liar.

NO WAY.

(:D)

Chris (nice job!)

Hey Jag, glad you found "that" guitar you've been searching for:) . Sounds sweet buddy, now...mic the damn thing already:D haha! I sold my d-35 to my mailman a few short yr's ago..I really miss it, but I get to use it when I want... it's just not the same tho:D . This is such a great tune man! Enjoy the new ax friend!!

I think i remember hearing the crawdad vocal version of this around May was it?

Hey for a DI that sounds really sweet. You probably have eq controls I would even say take a shave off the lows. Very nice sounding git.

Jag--Thats a good sounding guitar! Have you wore it out yet? :D So thats mic+ribbon transducer? Good demo, by the way. In C!? Yikes! I'd be in my grandmother falsetto by then!

You should definitely check out the Para-Acoustic DI if you are going to be playing this guitar live. You can dial out the boom easily and its a great, silent box to boot. Better than cutting a big hole in your Martin too. I got a little tray that attaches to a mic stand and I can make adjustments as needed easily. If you hook it up to a board with phantom power, it bypasses the battery too.

I remember this song. Did Al do a version of this? Why do I think he was associated with this?

Anyway, I like this song a lot. And that's a real nice sounding vocal. Good voice.

I think the guitar sounds excellent, but could use a little cut in the low mids. A little bit boomy.

I remember commenting on how much I liked the lyrics in this on. I can't look at a river without some longing feeling anyway, but this song is well crafted IMO. Seems to me it would have a lot of radio potential too, but I like that it's not produced too too radio-ish here. If you had a big time producer he'd do a great job with the radio version. But this is the one I'd personally hold on to.

Good job!

Tom

That's one of the best DI acoustics I've heard on this board. Your voice sounds pro too. I guess it just sounds like you've obviously been doing this a while and you know what you're doing.

The guitar just has a hint of that DI sound but frankly, it might not be worth the effort of trying to get a miced sound that competes with what you've got here.

Great job.

Sorry it took awhile to get back to you guys. Been busy…blah blah blah…you know the drill. I appreciate the comments & ideas all you guys threw out here. You guys are the greatest.

boydrj – Thanks for listening & compliments :)

muzeman – Thanks for the eq tip. I will check it out. Thanks for listening & the kind words :)

powderfinger – Thanks for listening. I am pretty darn happy with the DI sound. With tweaking, I think it will definitely be useful for just getting down ideas in the future and still getting a decent guitar sound without going through the trouble to set the mic up.

Guernica – Thanks for the listen & nice comments. I suppose I’ll have to bring the old Celebrity out on a date once in awhile, but I think I’ll be spending time with the new girlfriend :D. The Celebrity certainly served its purpose. Now I need to get practicing so I don’t look like someone that has more money to spend on a guitar than he has time to practice it :D I don’t deserve this guitar yet, but I intend to remedy that :D.

participant – Thanks. Yeah…I think I pretty well suck at finger picking. I’m gonna have to write some strummin’ songs for awhile. Thanks for the kind words & Chris can pat me on the back anytime as long as he keeps it above the waste. Errr…eeyuh…:D

bd – Thanks…I thought about sending you half, but…well…alright…I didn’t :D. Since my father in law was very explicit that I had to spend this money on a guitar, I couldn’t very well disobey that order could I? :D. Thanks man…this thing plays so nicely. It’s a joy. GL on the new Taylor. I played quite a few of those in this process and liked them and would probably go in that direction if I was to pick up another guitar (can’t have too many right? :D) for a different sound. I really was impressed with the Larrivees as well.

groucho - :p :D. Yup…big….fat….liar. Well. 2 our of 3 ain’t bad ;) :D. Thanks for listening.

David – Thanks David. Hey, that ain’t a bad deal. I could stand to have the $$$ back and my pocket and still use the guitar. :D. I really do like it. Thanks for listening and the kind words. BTW…I saw a song of yours slip by awhile ago (I’ve been pretty busy). I need to find it.

Khompewtur – Yeah, Crawdad did post his version of this song back around then. Please don’t A/B them :D. I don’t actually have on board eq controls on this system (I didn’t want to cut into the new axe). It does have a bass cut adjustment though, even though it is hard to get at. I will have to play with that a bit. Thanks for listening :)

Crawdad – Thanks for listening. Too bad the song sucks so much :D. Thanks for the idea on the Para & mic stand tray. Will give that a look. Yeah…and no saw will ever touch my baby :D. Yes C :D. It fit pretty well, although, I’m considering knocking it down to B as I rehearse it for live performance. Haven’t quite decided yet. Granny falsetto :D LOL…I’d love to hear it. Maybe you can do a BG’s cover some time and post it up? I’m not sure you have attacked that style yet :D. Thanks for listening :)

Sluice – Yes, Al did do a version of this and is heavily associated because we co-wrote this :D. Yeah…I’m gonna have to work on figuring out how to get rid of the boomies with the DI. Already have a few ideas where to start thanks to you guys here. I’m with you on the river thing. I grew up on the Mississippi River and it is just in my blood. In fact, the first song I wrote 8 years ago (when I first started really writing) is titled “The River”. It’s kind of what got me on this track. I wrote it and started playing it and a lot of people started commenting on how good they thought it was. That’s what kind of kindled this writing obsession I have now. I’ll have to record it and put it up for you guys some time. I don’t think it’s radio material, but I don’t think it’s a bad song either. In fact, one publisher I played it for said he thought it was my best effort at that time. Hmmmmm…maybe I’ll have to revisit that one too :D. Thanks a lot for listening and the kind words.

erichenryus – Thanks for listening and the nice comments. I would really like to work my guitar chops up and get my recording skills to a point where maybe I could start doing simple guitar/vocal demos for people for a reasonable price. I’ve got a ways to go on that front I think, but maybe someday I can make this passion something other than a money drain (or less of one :D). I’m already doing some pro bono :D work for some folks already and enjoying it and there is a pretty good market for affordable guitar/vocal demos for songwriters around here. My schedule is full with projects for the next two weeks (sounds so professional doesn’t it :D). Just a wild thought for down the road a ways. Thanks much :)

mmm, mmm, mmm that sounds nice...really nice. Of course the performer did pretty good too. :) As always.....
say, you been pickin anywhere down around Commerce and Broadway lately? You sure need to be...and across the river at the big house too. Hopefully' see you again soon.

VSpaceBoy – Please go to an Ear, Nose & Throat specialist. I think your sniffer is broken :D. Just kidding. Thanks a lot for the listen & the nice comment. :)

Toki Hey Ken…on bad days at work I’ve thought about busking maybe :D, but there are some pretty damn good players just working the street corners around here (remember Johnny Hiland :D). Speaking of him…he still does get to Nashville every so often (but not much any more – he’s become quite the in-demand player these days as he should be). I really need to check him out soon. That 30 second sample we got that night blew my mind. Maybe we can get lucky and both catch him some time when you (and hopefully your wife – so we can do the couples thing) get up this way. Ahhhh….maybe when my daughter gets a little older I can find a few other old farts around and start a band or something. It would be fun to get out and sing again. Even if it’s just more or less for fun :D. Or maybe do a solo gig for awhile if I can get the chops to a respectable level. Take care man & hope to see you soon.
