Old bands you have just discovered

Foo Fighters.
I've known who they are obviously, but didn't really start listening to them until after I saw their recent documentary.
It gives you a different view once you see what went into it. Kind of like Some Kind of Monster. (I love St. Anger. no sarcasm.)

Hey Lt. I have some Vinyl that is red see through and most of the words are in IDK? Japanese except for the artists and the names of the songs, are these boot legs from way back when or just weird imports?

probably imports ..... possibly worth a little money if they're mint.
Colored vinyl is always possibly worth money and Japanese imports can be too.

i have to say that CDs were one of the worst formats ever for music. i still have about 400 of em that i'm dying to unload before they're utterly valueless. its probably too late already.
i like to listen to music when i drive and usually bringing a CD into my car was pretty much its death knell. there it would get bounced around with 50 others and of course with CDs, a single scratch in the wrong place can render the entire CD unplayable. cassettes in the car? fuggetaboutit, there would be huge piles all over the back seat and passenger side seat and floor. any passengers in my car had to shovel em away with a snow shovel. once in awhile i would "clean" my car which would involve going out there with four plastic shopping bags, dragging all the stray tapes inside and then painstakingly trying to match the tapes with their cases, a process which could easily take a couple hours. now i have this thing that fits in the palm of my hand that fits almost 2000 albums on it. my car's a lot cleaner.
at home i usually spin vinyl.

i've got a few neat colored ones, some marblized, a couple with weird etchings. transparent vinyl can be annoying because the dead grooves between songs on the opposite side are just as visible as the side you're playing, making it sometimes tricky to find specific songs.

but yeah I just dropped in to recommend both the 2001 soundtrack and the soundtrack to The Shining.
Kubrick and I woulda gotten along because we both love Gyorgi Ligeti, Kryzstoff Pendrecki, and Wendy/Walter Carlos.

check at Goldmine for the best idea of their value. Ebay also but that can often be really inflated ...... Goldmine usually gives you a pretty good idea.
But generally one requirement is that they be mint. Less than mint really reduces the value ....... and record collectors are insane with their concept of mint. To those guys a brand new unopened record can be not-mint. So mint or VG++ are gonna be where the value lies unless it's something super rare.

Have really gotten into some old psych and garage from the 60s. Stuff that is similar to 13th floor elevators, but more obscure....the alarm clocks, los saicos (awesome peruvian garage rocknroll), stuff on the nuggets comps.

Old Vietnamese psych as well- check out the record entitled "Saigon Rock and Soul"...lost psych recordings from Vietnam during the height of the war. Rad stuff.

weekend after the 4th so ....... the 8th, 9th and 10th. I usually get there early thursday (the 7th) ..... some of the neatest stuff goes on that first day as people start arriving and getting all the stuff set up and working ......

It's one of the most wonderful things to discover and rediscover music. For instance Bob Marley. I've heard his music many times on the radio and at parties. So when i decide to check someone out i will do some investigating. I picked up his Exodus record and absolutely love it. As i'm listening i will get on the internets and check out not only the artist, but also what was happening in the world at that time. Kinda like using the internet as a time machine. I've since bought 3 more Marley records and the Live At The Rainbow concert. Unbelievable performances on that. I would play Bob EVERYDAY last summer. His music seems like it just can't be played loud enough.

One of the greatest gifts music has to offer is that it is always there waiting to be discovered and rediscovered.

I've heard of him a lot but never really checked him out. I will do so now.
