Thread from the Dead!
hehe.
Hey, camn. I seem to gravitate towards your stuff whenever I'm in Winamp, and recently had some ideas...
"Take a Walk" You know the guitar lead, how I was gripin' about it earlier? It's a good lead, just didn't like how high it was. Are you able to go in the studio and drop it an octave? Maybe double it, delaying the lowered double by 10ms or so. It would make the lead entry @ 3:47 more subtle, maybe approaching the tones you're getting around 4:13 (and I LIKE those!).
@ 3:10, you've got some cool background shit goin' on. I really like it because it kinda sounds like a car on wet pavement ("take a ride"). Also, those "wooden knockers" (no idea what they're called) sound cool, too. The "wet pavement" sounds seem to come in on downbeats after that--I found them a little distracting (in a "muddy" kind of way).
"You in the Light" Electric Rhythm has that lazy feel. cool. But when Lead comes in, it's lazy to Rhythm, which makes lead seem late. Combined, it makes a somewhat sluggish feel. From beginning of song, could you move up the Lead about 30ms?
@ 3:26, a second (higher) arppegiated lead would lend transition to that sudden WAH at the end of the phrase (and similar ones throughout the song, if you wanna).
One more idea: you've got three seconds of dead silence starting off the song. Have you considered starting the song with the "chBNGNNNnnnnhhhhhhh" of a flourescent light turning on? It might not be the sound I'm thinking of (you know, when the street lights come on, they make that sound). INDUSTRIAL TRANSFORMER is what I'm thinking of. Then song, fading out transformer (HEAVILY pre-amped). You might just mic the sound of a computer monitor "de-gaussing" (cross-topic-ing at the moment, hehe).
One more question: there's a heavy bass response in Magnum Butterfly, comes up @1:11. It seems to go away. Was that a room mic being moved?
That room you recorded it in: get some drum tracks from that room with those mics! I'd love to hear that "distant" drum song with tight electrics and those gorgeous vocals (both of 'em!).
I can dig this music, camn. You are my official house-cleaning music! Thank you!
