My ex girlfriend Whom is in the process of being signed with atlantic records (singer)... tried her best while we went out to RAP and uhh its harder then you think? if its so easy why aint you signed at it?!? its harder then you think all music takes talent... i dare you to say that to someone who takes it seriously in there face bet your jaw gets rearranged......

As I said before ...You are not ready to get honest opinions..and Yeah there is always going to be someone who makes a remark about your music that will upset you(part of the deal)...And yeah..you have a right to your opinion too..But if you want to go far with what you do ,without a bunch of extra burdens and stuggles added to your already very difficult journey, you might tone down being so defensive with anger..Of course I know you will retort to this 'unfavorably'...or maybe not? And I won't even go into why you even brought your EX-girfriend into the discussion..So she tried Rapping? Couldn't do it? Signed with Alantic Records? So that shows us how hard it is..? But this is common for people with your attitude. Say something negative and right away you have to hit someone. I hate to fill you in on this sport, not everybody will like your "Music". Have you ever recorded a rap artist? doubt it, so how can you say that? The rap industy is at the top (or maybe 2nd) on album sales.... Think about that one more time

The problem is narrow-mindedness, people always think they have the right idea based on what they think good music sounds like, which is completely bias in itself, and all other types of music are considered "sub-par" because that music doesn't appeal to their personal interest. I love rap music, but I also love classical, jazz, rock, etc. and by no means do I think someone is "talentless" just because they write music that doesn't appeal to me.

I didn't say that there isn't a shitload of people who like it. That means nothing. Most people like simple un-inspiring repetitive crappy music. That covers 90% of music today. I still say that most of these so called artists are completely talentless.

I'm not narrow minded at all. I like well performed music by talented muscians not matter what the genre. I still say that talking over top of chopped up samples and making beats is pretty low on the talent scale. My opinion, I'm entitled to it whether you all agree or not.

So apparently you think all rap music consists of chopped up samples, which its not, and now your saying that writing electronic or computer-based hip hop music (which I'm assuming is what you mean when you say "making beats") is on a lower level talent-wise than playing a live instrument? As if those who can make clean recordings using pre-sampled instruments through a computer have a less intuitive view or not quite the same creative vision as others? I'm glad you keep repeating the fact that this is all your own opinion, because its credibility is starting to question me.

And ....here we have a bit of a ruffling...BUT if the RAP/HIPHOP is so successful ...then so be it....No opinion here...

I have more respect for the people who do the music originally that gets bastardized and the ones who make good samples of accoustic instruments. I've played with some of the software that people use to make beats and joints and whatever the hell. There is no skill involved. Sure, you have to have some basic knowledge of the software but that can be learned in an afternoon by reading the manual. What's the chances of learning how to play drums, guitar, bass, and every other brass, woodwind and stringed instrument in an afternoon. Not likely. All you have to do is line up the dots in the right place on the screen and blamo, hottness galore.

Having tried my hand at electronic music a bit, I realized I wasn't cut out for it, and stuck to writing "normal" songs and playing my piano, Wurlitzer, guitar, bass, drums, trumpet, etc. I have a music degree and perfect pitch and I don't normally brag this much but it's just to say that I have plenty of talent; I just couldn't cut it at the electronic stuff. It takes tons of talent, just a different kind of talent you use to play and record an instrument. People who haven't tried it probably won't recognize that, so you might encounter that a lot here, React. I agree that it takes tons of talent to rap, and I totally respect it even though I'm not hugely into it.

On another note though, you complained about people not reading the whole thread when they were trying to help you out by giving you advice, which seemed a little ungrateful to me. Honestly, I had read every post in the thread, and I had totally missed where you said that:

I know this is the internet, but when people offer you help, you probably shouldn't complain because they failed to interpret your poor grammar and spelling. I don't even know what ImFao means. Okay, I didn't come here to get in an all out war, but, learning my sequencer software in an afternoon? Ha, thats some funny shit. My DP manual is over a thousand pages by itself, I've had the software for over a year and I still don't understand everything in that program. I played in my school's orchestra for over 9 years, call me a dork, whatever. The point is that I know what it takes to become good at playing an actual instrument, and by no means it is easy. It takes natural talent, combined with many hours of practicing and learning. It takes those EXACT SAME three things to become good at producing computer music as well, and pretty much any other hobby I can fathom. You make it sound like all someone has to do is load samples and a sequencer on their hard drive and the beats assemble themselves. Give me a break. Just because your on a computer doesn't mean you don't have to understand key changes, transposition, timing randomizations that humanize music and give it feeling. If you want to write good computer music, you have to understand how instruments are played in their natural form, I don't disagree that, in fact I think it's completely necessary. But don't tell me that there is no skill involved, because good music is written by talented musicians who understand it, no matter what instrument or platform they use to create it.

I totally agree. Problem is, most don't. All they do is use other peoples music and shred it up and loop it down. Then throw on a stolen familiar melody for the hook and call themselves musicians/artists. Nope, sorry aint buying it. I've listen to some of the BEATS around here and they are bullshit, plain and simple.
