Normalization for burning compilation CD

I have spent weeks now trying to figure out how to do this, but I'm totally frustrated!

I have a bunch of MP3 files which I have downloaded. I understand how to turn them into WAV files for burning onto a CDR. However, I don't understand what I can use to make the volume level of these WAV files equal enough that the resulting CD can be played without constantly adjusting the volume.

Should the normalization occur in the MP3 to WAV conversion process? I have tried all kinds of programs, most recently "dbPowerAmp Music Converter". I chose a whole list of songs to convert from MP3 to WAV. I checked the "normalize volume" box, and the songs were converted successfully to WAV files. However, there is still a big difference in volume levels of the songs.

I read on another page on this site about "audiograbber". Although I looked at the link, it looked like it just normalizes WAV files from CDs into MP3 files. Can it do the opposite -- normalizing MP3 files into WAV files?

If anyone can tell me the easiest way to accomplish this, I'd really appreciate it. If there is a program that will do both the conversion from MP3 to WAV, and the normalization of the WAV files, that would be even better! Thank you in advance!

download the software called "audiograbber" from the site http://www.audiograbber.com-us.net/ this program is used for ripping cd's however it has a "normalize batch wav file" option which will take a batch of wav files of your choise and normalize them all to the same volume

EPlay I think your problem might be more than that. What's happenning is even though they are at the same level they actually sound different. This is because of apparent loudness. Do a search on Mastering.
cheers
John
