I'm not new to music, nor am I new to computing. I'm new to mixing the two together.

My situation:

I have played guitar for a long time, and have only a couple acoustics left that I have time to mess with. I have a pickup for my acoustics, that I can plug into my Audigy 2 Platinum ZS front panel, and it works and sounds fabulous. I'd like to lay down a few tracks using this setup, but I'm a bit stumped. If I hit "Record", the timer starts as though it's recording, but when I'm done and would like to hear the results, no matter what button is pressed, the timer resets to "00:00:00" and there's nothing to hear.

If anyone is using this same card, and can inform me what I'm doing wrong, I'd be very greatful. =)

I also have Cubasis VST 4 that came with the card, but am unfamiliar with it's interface. Perhaps I'm missing a setting somewhere, but using either Cubasis or the Audigy software produces the same, unwanted results.

Thanks if you are able to guide me!

Go into your software's settings and make sure that your soundcard is checked as the recording interface.

I would bet that your problem will be fixed if you go into the Soundblaster software mixing panel - on the right side is a Recording selection --> make sure that is set to either the input you are using or "What you hear".

Thanks to both of you.

Rokket: It's the only option available, so that was easy. =D

aaroncomp: Yup.. I tried both ways, but I get the same results, that's why I came here. I must be missing something else in the settings. =(

When you say it works and sounds fabulous, are you hearing it back out over your speakers or headphones prior to hitting record?

It plays through the speakers or headphones, no problem, using any effects I choose, before and during recording.

Unfortunately I'm not familiar with that software. Could be a problem with how you have the transport control setup (basically, the play/record buttons) or tracks armed for recording. If sound is making it through your soundcard in and out of your computer, it would seem the problem must lie in how your software is setup.

Yeah, make sure you first ARM the track you want to record to in your software (this typically means clicking a button with R or REC on it). Also, make sure your input device in the software for that track is correct.

arm the track for battle and you'll get better results with a mic
