To Plek, or Not to Plek? That Is My Question

I dropped out of college and went to work at a small guitar factory, Mossman Guitars in Winfield Ks. I got paid $2.35 per hour. Three years later I was a shop foreman making $3.50 per hour.
I was lucky, I went from $1.40 when I was in college to almost $4 when I got on as a salaried degreed chemist. My wife had a biology degree and was making $3.35/hr. We felt like we were doing great. Of course that was in 1976, and things were a lot cheaper then. My first house that cost $28,000 is now assessed at $219,000. My car cost $2600.

It's a shame I'm not in your area, I'd bring you a couple of guitars to work some magic on.

Basic setups, truss rod adjustments etc aren't a problem. I do them all the time, but I don't have the tools to do full nut cutting, or a fret level.
I consider nut slots and fret leveling & crowning to be the most essential part of a proper set up.

People ship guitars to me from all over the country.

I thought it was getting a car that would actually hold a set of drums?
Please. I've had more trucks...
My very first pro band did a showcase in Manhattan back in 71 - 72? I was about 19. The "old man" in the group was all of 30! he was semi-famous. But I digress.
I had a 1963 Ford van at the time that I bought from the telephone company. If you're old enough, you will remember THAT green paint. We did our show, loaded out and were heading back home to the Island. In the middle of the Queens Midtown Tunnel, Ronnie said, "What's that smell?". Turns out that when we packed our gear, a metal rod pushed up against and crossed the battery terminals (which were right behind my driver's seat). Damn thing got red hot and set one of the speaker covers on fire.
$5000 worth of gear, a $500 car, a $50 pay check (minus union dues)
Great life. Wouldn't change a thing.
