... in clubs that pay say, 500 and up for bands I don't see that.
Same here. There is very little original music scene up here north of Boston and what there is don't pay.

I play standard clubs and always have and I've NEVER seen clubs using multiple bands except for places using original music bands where they'll have 8 bands playing short sets and not getting paid shit.
.

That's us, except we don't play short sets and there's uaully only 2 or 3 bands.

This weekend we're playing this massively lame white-trash bike rally in Galveston. There will be literally a hundred thousand of people there. It's gonna be mental. I plan to just show up, play, and leave ASAP.
probably gonna be a fun gig though mang. Post some pics if you get some.

If I get some. I'm not really looking forward to it at all. It seems like it's gonna be a huge hassle. Way too many people. And fuck, Galveston is like an hour and a half away and LSU is playing Bama that night.

I'm thinking about bringing my fishing gear and hitting the surf when we're done. Catching some big fish will make it worthwhile.

Its maybe different over there than here in the UK. There are no "built-in crowds" here. Just none. This is even something repeatedly stated by promoters when they book you. The only people who turn up to gigs are the ones dragged in by the bands, unless you're talking about bands big enough to be getting daily coverage on tv/major media.

Maybe that's why most bands over here aren't snobs. Other bands are not competition, do you even like listening to music Greg? To me the only thing better than standing in front of an amazing band playing the fuck out of a stage is to be actually up there yourself.

well that does kinda suck. I actually have that night off so I'm gonna be sitting and watching and probably cursing!!!

:laughings:

I have a small portable digital TV. I'm gonna mount that bitch to my kick drum.

Like I said, idealistic. You're still young though. You'll grow out of it.

Do I like listening to music? Sure I do. Do I like live music? Sometimes. I'll go see tours of bands I like. I'm gonna see Social D this month and NOFX in January. Do I like local live music? Not at all. Not even a little. And to take it one step further, I hate the global music scene in general. Music sucks now, bands can't play, and no one knows anything about tone or arrangement. The songs are garbage. There are too many bands using little practice amps and cheap guitars and drums with mismatched heads that aren't tuned. It's a mess. I've told you this before, you are in the worst era ever.

:laughings:

I'd just creme all over myself if LSu beat those assholes.

The sad thing is that they can, but they probably won't. Bama is beatable and LSU has enough defense to do it. If only LSU could be mediocre on offense, they'd beat everyone. That's how bad their offense is. Mediocre would be a step up.

Maybe, but what am i gonna do, give up playing music and sit at a desk for the rest of my life? Better still, play in a fucking covers band and make 200 quid a night while my soul slowly falls out through my arse? I'd rather eat value tins of beans and keep doing what I'm doing.

I don't think its idealistic to believe in what you're doing or to pursue something even if its not as easy as it once was.

And i know you think what my band does is "the same as everyone else" but like i said, so far you're one of the only people who's not had the exact opposite opinion. You're certainly the only person who's looked at photos of my crotch long enough to notice what colour belt i'm wearing :)

That's not what makes you idealistic, but whatever.

By all means keep doing it if you like it. Just don't let the constant failure bring you down and remember why you play - because it's fun.

That belt comment really packed your vagina full of sand huh? :laughings:

Don't fall into the trap of believing your own hype, however scarce it may be. When people's "praise" of your cookie-cutter band translate into actual dollars, then you can let your head swell a little. Until then, I'm the only motherfucker being honest with you. :o

By the way, my band is lame-o rock cliche shit too. So don't feel bad. :D

I'd love to play my own originals, but no one can keep up.

Absolutely, its the only reason to do it :)

Cookie-cutter? Isn't that like screamo bands?

I love the way you cling to every little term I use when it comes to your band. :laughings: :laughings: :laughings: :laughings: :laughings:

Lighten up dude. It is possible that someone might not like your shitty music. You're not as original and groundbreaking as you think you are. :drunk:

Does anyone else even use these forums or is it just me and you arguing these days haha.

Greg, fun's fun, and I am all for a bit o' banter, but do you think we can dispense with the name calling? Really, can't you express yourself without stooping to that level?

Thanks in advance.
