so...........I just bought a Rode Nt 1000.. and set it up to record an acoustic guit piece that i had been working on. Put it up nice and close to the sound hole so i could get a "strong" signal........

..........didnt notice at first, but after putting down a few tracks of other instruments, i start to wonder what the hell that low freq. howling is. .........lesson learned:D

Yep--that's a pretty biug deal when recording acoustic guitars. That sound hole is BAD! Instead, keep your mic about 10-12" away from the guitar, and point it as the spot where the neck meets the body at a slight angle away from the sound hole.

Play with the proximity and direction of the mic, but it is very possible and quite easy to get a very good acoustic guitar sound without the need for FX. This is where mic placement is crucial.

If you have a good Omni mic, you can get up close to the soundhole without the Proximity effect, but with a great up-close sound. I've used the Berhringer ECM8000 and the Soundelux U97 with good results. But with a cardiod (or worse - a Figure-8), you're screwed!
