Newbie Trance Mixer

Ok, I am just getting into mixin my own trance tracks after years of listening to the CDs of DJs in my area.

I want to see if I can mix songs on my computer - it's a Sony Viao - and i was wondering what kind of equipment would be best to mix on a computer, or if i should mix on some other machine.

To answer the question with a question...

Are you mixing as in DJ mixing (taking complete songs and running them in together, matching BPM, etc), or are you mixing as in doing mixdowns (taking sounds you recorded [or samples if using a tracker] and panning, EQing, etc. to produce a complete song [which a DJ may mix someday?]) What you mean by "mix" will help determine what equipment/software you will need.

I assume the Vaio has a sound card? That's the first thing...
