I am trying to record my analog 4track signal to my computer. I'm using cool edit, but other programs have the same effect...
If I plug my 4track stereo out into the "mic" input on my sound card, I can record but obviously everything is way overdriven. I can't monitor the output through the computer's speakers and individual track's pan control doesn't work.
If I plug my 4track stereo out into the "line in" input I can monitor the playback through the computer and the pan control works ok. The problem is that when I hit record on cool edit (or anything else I have) I can see the db meter levels changing but when I hit stop there's nothing recorded.
Anyone care to share some wisdom? And don't be afraid to "dumb it down".
