Hello,
I am somewhat new to the computer recording and have a couple of questions. I just purchased an Audigy EX sound card and they included a copy of Cubasis VST with the card. I had been using Quartz Audio Master Free to do some recording, but it is very limited on the number of audio tracks. Part of the problem with using the Cubasis program is that I have no instructions of any type.
Now for the questions
1) is there someplace that I can get a manual or a starters guide for this program.
2) Is there a mixer in this program? I can record but I have no way to adjust the levels after they are on the drive.
Thanks for any info that anyone can give me on this.

I've asked some basic questions without much help from this forum also. I think if you are new and using Cubasis that was bundled with something else you are basically out of luck here. There is a mixer included in Cubasis, and it seems decent, but you have to search for it and I haven't used it enough to be able to describe to you exactly where it is.

If you happen to find a manual or something, please let me know. I could really use one also. I bet Cubase is pretty nice, but they should probably not bother including Cubasis without providing ANY instructions whatsoever. It seems intuitive enough, but it is frustrating to have no reference whatsoever when you do have a question.

Good luck. You're going to need it.

Isn't cubasis vst close to cubase vst, and there ought to be lots of info (including tutors and getting started) on the web. Just ignore stuff you don't have in cubasis - it sucks but it's better than nothing.

Shitty if they didn't include a manual on the CD at least (pdf), have you checked that and if there isn't any downloadables at Pinnacles or Creatives sites in their support pages. Might check the knowledge base at creative - maybe there's at least some info.

I'm new to Cubasis, too, and it's not making me happy. When it works, it's great, but that's only like half the time. There is a Cubasis manual on the disc, but it doesn't help me troubleshoot.

I believe all the unripped copies of cubasis have manuals with them. Just print them out and you have your guide for trouble shooting. You're going to have a real hard time finding someone here that's willing to give out their manuals for you or even help you if they believe you ripped your software.

The manual actually is on the Tascam US-122 installation CD, but it is not worth a SHIT and does very little to help troubleshoot what are obviously pretty common problems for newbies.

It has been my experience that if you beg long enough, somebody here might actually be willing to help you. I guess some people will just assume the worst though.

Don't listen to blak jak. If you ask a specific question, it will be answered sooner or later.

We're a supportive community here, and many of us have been through the same problems. Chances are, someone has worked through the same thing and can help you.

Mixer for Cubasis VST

I also have the Audigy sound card as well as the cubasis that came with it. To answer you questions I found that going to the help menus were very informative but do not know where to find a manual. Yes it does have a mixer in the program. Click on audio then click on VST channel mixer. The mixer will pop up. This is what you will also use to add effects to each channel. I struggled with this program at first but glad I stuck with it. I've been able to record some cool stuff with it. Instrumenst, vocals, amd midi all mixed together. Some of the effects that come with it are cheezy but I have been able to download some cool direct x and vst plugins for it that sound awsome.

I use Cubasis VST, and have no problem helping those in need !
:D
I agree, the manual (even the HARDCOPY - yes, I have one) bites.
But a lot of it is trial and error. Took me nearly 2 hours to record my first sound (3 years ago).
I am definitely not fully versed in all its features, but it does what I need it to most - mix !
The only thing I don't like about it is that you only get 8 tracks.
Have to spend a LOT more cash to move up to 16 (and Cubase).

Cubasis vst

The VST version I am using that came with Audigy will alow you to have as many Audio tracks as you want or as many as your hard drive can play and record at the same time. When you first open a page to start a new song you will only see the first 8 tracks listed as audio tracks then the rest of the tracks will be midi. You can change as many midi tracks as you need to audio by clicking on the symbol to the left of the track. It will be in the colom that is marked C. You can then selct if you want the track to be audio or midi. I hope this helps

I'm a Frayed Knot ... :D

Yes, you can do this, but it also requires you to pick an audio channel to record to - you've only got choices from 1 - 8 ....
This is in the column marked Chn.
---edit---
Hey, I'm just editing this and looking at Audio|System from the pull down menu where you can change the number of channels.
Right click and it increases, then you can change the channel in that column ! That never worked for me before !
I've got to try this in a real situation - maybe I'm no longer a frayed knot kinda guy. Thanks, man !

Cheers,
Mike

There is hope...maby

There is a section in the US-224 manual which is available for download @the tascam website that has a section on Cubasis wich is the bundled software, i am not sure if it would be a use to any of you but it is worth a shot

This is just unacceptable. If you got Cubasis in a bundle you ought to be given a decent manual so you can figure out how to use it. Having said that I bought a stand alone copy of Cubase SE and the manual is just a pdf, which is next to useless. I bought an aftermarket book instead, but I don't think you should have to do that.

I think there's a Cubasis forum on cubase.net - might be more help there.

When the program installs off the cd you can find the manual by going to start/programs/Steinberg Cubasis VST/Cubasis VST(the one with the adobe icon next to it)

I can do you one better....I bought the full version of Cubase VST, and then got grandfathered a free copy of SX because of the time frame in which I bought VST, and yes the manual was just a pdf file. I found that it wasn't very convenient to use, so I actually printed out the whole dang thing, triple punched it and it is in two, three ring binders. It's sweet. I used to take them with me everywhere, and when I was sitting and waiting for anything, I would take 'em out and start reading. It really helped me learn stuff that I didn't really even need at the time, but then when I did it was like "wait, I remember reading about this".

Sure do wish it had included a hard copy of the manual, but it was worth the $$ and time to print mine out.
