New song

oh yeah baby!!! you're killing me with these nickle and dime teasers, ya know.... I just might write my own version of this song just so I don't go nuts... ;)

I love the new verse and what sounds like a bridge section or was it the chorus where it goes to the minor chords...

I think starting the tune off full bore with drums, bass, and electric guitar and then letting it all drop down a notch when the harmonica comes in was a bit awkward. How about taking your awesome acoustic version intro and then let eveything else come in with the harmonica? And then like you did with the chorus/bridge, tease with the electric sparingly and then let the lead guitar lines come in full bore? Sort of build towards something... know what I mean? Another idea that came to mind would be to go to the electric lead line where you have the vocals start and wait a bit to start the vocals... I don't know.. just a thought... either way, this song is going to be one of favorites of all time regardless. How's that for gushing? I'm serious, man... I love what you're doing! I'll let the guru's comment on your sonics.

hey Pete, JR had some good ideas about starting it off softer, it comes in with a bit too much attack.. I like the revisions, and it's getting longer every time.. :D

My ears are a little fried right now, so I can't comment on the mix in detail, but it sounds good from what I can tell.. I haven't been able to lay drums because my set is a bit screwed up.. 3 pads have stopped working within a 1 week period, I think it's from playing them with the sticks backwards.. :(

I'll listen again tomorrow when my ears are better.

boydrj,Thanks man,I appreciate you listening!
Definitly needed the electric to fill it out, thanks.

Jake,Hi and welcome my friend!
Thanks for your kind words, they really mean a lot to me!:)

Glad your little sweetie liked #3,what's her name?
Tell her the whistling man says hi!:D

You said cheesy,that was funny!:p

Ya,just my little piece of heaven home studio.
Don't know about low cost though, just ask my wife she'll tell you!
She's really good about it though, she understands boy's must have their toy's!:D
Thanks.

JR,Hey if you write some lyrics, let me know.
I could use all the help I can get!:D

I guess it's a bridge with the minor chords, still working it out.
Thanks to you and Sam about the heads up on the intro.
That's what's so great about this place,I would have never heard that.
The input here is beyond measure in the help department!

I really like your ideas, definitly going to try them, thanks!:)

Thanks very much for yor kind words bro,I really appreciate them very much!

If you want to hear something really good, listen to Unconditional
by Guernica.
Iv'e been looping it for the last 45 minutes, now that's something to shoot for!;)
Thanks.

Sam,Sorry to hear about your drums dude,(and your ears!)
Hope they both get better real soon! :D

I'm going to try JR's suggestions,the man know's what he's talking about! :D

Thanks,
Pete

By low cost I'm mean under 100k...no ssl, no neve. I was really impressed by the production even in mp3.

My daughter's name is Derbi.

Thanx for the tune, I'll post a couple of mine in a few days but I have a feeling they're not going to "float your boat"

My father is also a christian musician Ive posted a couple of his songs on nowhere radio he's Bill Keenom.

Anyway thanx,
JAKE

Jake,

I'm DEFINITLY a low end guy by those standards!
(I don't even have a real pre amp,yet!):D

Derbi is a really nice name, never heard it before.

Hey if it's music,it floats my boat!:D

I'm going over now to check out your dad's stuff, thanks for the link.

Thanks,
Pete

BTW-What's a Neve?
Is that like an RNMP,only better?:D

Jake, are you the same jake from dan's recording website? dude, you definitely need to post your tunes for these guys to hear...

Jake,
Wow your dad is fantastic!
I really love this kind of stuff, and my favorite is sea songs.
Is that you playing lead on #3?

He can really play man,and his voice is just great!
Some talent there,he's got to be a pro, right?

You should post Seafarin' man here,I'm certian a lot of the guy's would really enjoy hearing it,as well as his other stuff.

Is that Derbi he's holding, she's cute!:)

Thanks,
Pete

I really dig this style of tune.

I listened to both mixes - #2 is not as muddy in the low end, but it still lacks definition. I think it's just a little eq issue that you can tweak out. Not that I'm a mix master or anything, it's just a nice tune & deserves the extra effort. :D

Nice and mellow. I dig it.

Jim,Thanks very much I really appreciate it!
I'm trying to learn to eq better, pretty much hit or miss right now.
Some day I'll get it!:D

Pete

NON MUSICAL POST

Pete's a great guy. Can I get a second?

Anyway, you're "hitting" more than you're missing.

Hi, Muezeman

Great song, I only heard Version #2, so I have nothing to miss about #1 (since I don't know it) but this one I'm sure has great playing. I specially like the acoustics, both in sound and the kind of interplay between them. Great playing; and to be honest, I kinda like the fret noises, it's one of the little things that makes acoustic guitar come to life in mixes. Just MHO.

Others have adressed this, but the drums sound pretty bad to me. I know it's very hard to do convincing drums with drums machines, so it's just nitpicking.

Great job, bro!

flapo1,Thanks very much my friend!

Glad you liked the acoustics,I really cut the low end out of them, guess it worked?

Ya,I know the drums stink,it's just a basic pattern,like a click track.
I don't know what I can do to mmake them sound better, can't do much with a drum machine.
What I was thinking about trying is,let them play through the monitors, and micing them, worth a shot. :D
Thanks!

Hey Chris,I'm glad nobody second'd your emotion,I think I would have puked on my keyboard!:D :D
(Just kidding!) :p

I don't know if your busting my chops or what?
I hope so!:D

I just wanted to say,I know this song has been on the first page for 3 day's now.
If it seem like I keep bumping it to keep it up top, that's not it at all.
I feel bad for hogging a spot with an uncompleted song.

You have to understand,I have no life!
I go to work,come home ,go to sleep,get up,go to work,come home,go to sleep,ect.,ect.,ect.
I know a lot of guys around here have bands, play out, make cd's ect.

For me,this is it!
You guy's are the only one's who ever hear my stuff.
So when I say I appreciate somebody's listening,I REALLY mean it!
That's why I always reply to everyones post's,and I enjoy doing it.

Iv'e been playing for 30 something years, and nobody has ever really been interested in my music.
I tried to give it up a couple of times, just couldn't do it.
I'm addicted to the stuff!:D
And I really love this place!:D

Cool, bro! Keep it up, for me its a great scape tube too, you know from work pressure and all that. I really enjoy homereccing.

As far as the drums are concerned, have you ever tried FruityLoops? I don't know if you record in your computer, but if you do, it could be a good option from your actual setup. It's quite flexible and it can use SoundFonts, which generally are multisampled and sound a lot better than normal samples.

Good luck and blessings!

very nice pete!!!! i really like the electric git!! and i like the finger squeaks to, has a more intimate feel with them imo.

another keeper:)

thanks man

peace

rick

flapo1,thanks again,my friend.
Glad you get where I'm coming from.
I record in another part of the house, without a computer.
I'll definitly check it out,I have Cubase on this one, mabey I can layer it on the stereo track.

Rick, thanks very much,I really appreciate it.
I posted a newer version, the one you heard.
I used JR#97and Sam's advice, left the electric out until the second verse.
Thanks

I'm going to dig in and try to finish this,so if anyone has any comments or suggestions, please PM me.
I don't want to keep bumping this, too much other good stuff going on around here!:D

Thanks again,
Pete

I'm likin' the revisions Pete!

The only problem I see now is the length.. It is too short.. Just when I start feeling the electric, (which I''m glad you put back BTW) it ends..

time for some needless solos, keys, and extensions.. :D

Hey Pete... it's sounding a lot better. There are a few spots where I'd do it different, but that's mostly a matter of preference. The guitar solo leaves you totally hanging and wanting for more.. nice job. I love the over lapping lead lines. Randy Rhodes did some similar stuff and it always made me wish the song went on for at least another :45.

The more people I meet the more I'm convinced that a large percentage of men have a some sort of home studio setup at home. The last three people I met were husbands of my wive's friends and when I went to their house, to my surprise they had a home studio of some sort setup in the basement. You are not alone muzeman. Ask around. I bet some of your neighbors and friends share the same passion/hobby/habit/addiction.

Anyway, I like were this song has gone. Very nice guitars all the way around, all you need is a better drum track. I'd offer assitance but I'm overcommitted right now as it is. Have you tried out any drum loops? Sometimes they sound better than midi sequences. Actually I think they almost always sound better, cause they are usually recordings of real drummers with real drumsets.

Second thing that might help this song is the singing. Your singing is good as it. Your pitch doesn't seem to have any problems which is a good thing to get right from the start. Just needs a little more heart in the delivery for my taste. But that's me. It sounds very good the way it is, very relaxed. I just want more energy in it somehow. Have you ever heard the song 'Hunger Strike' by Temple of the Dog? That's what I'm talking about.

its coming along great, Pete....this one is screaming for real drums to help out the groove.....

Nice groove...

The pickin' and-a harpin' is grand and dandy... Very flavorful, very Americana. The drums need some serious meat to catch up with the rest though. THe kick is almost loud enough, but very thin, high-pitched. This needs a deeper tone, and a 9" thivck maple snare with gut snares kind of looseness in the backbeat, then it'll be super-effective.

Keep us posted on this one!
