After many changes and overdubs, I've finally finished another one. This song has 4 acoustic guitar parts, bass, vocals and one more 'instrument' (see if you can name it!). I played and recorded everything except for some whispering courtesy of my roomate and my girlfriend. Feel free to comment on the song, recording, even the lyrics....bring it on.

Here is is at IUMA: The Infidel Acoustic
I just uploaded it to mp3.com too, but that could take a while.

Very nice sound. Pleasing tone .

I could hear slight noise panned right somewhere. Is that reocrding noise or atmosphere.

I like your voice. The song is not my cup of tea but it was nicely mixed with good balance and effects.

keep it up.

hey, was this recorded to tape before going to computer?

Also, what mic did you use?

I thought the noise would be the first thing people noticed. And believe or not, that was intentional - I left my air conditioning on when recording a couple parts for the white noise. It was recorded straight to the computer. Thats a AT 4033 on the vocals. Thanks for the comments.

Well, the noise may be intentional, but it's distracting, and too loud, especially since it's only on the right side. Overall, I think this mix is a little too wet, and a little too compressed. The acoustic guitars sound squashed and a little dull. The electric guitar is too reverby, and the tone on it is too dark. Overall, I think this song needs less reverb. The vocals should be more upfront and drier.

I don't know what that mystery instrument is, but it's my favorite part of the song. Too bad it's monotimbral, at times it's in key and at other times it's out...

Hmm... I have to disagree, with most of what Chargersaid.

The noise is a little too loud, but it adds atmosphere. I like the reverb,
Towards the end the acous might be a little squashed. But the tone is nice.

I like this wet mix...;)

It would be the same song all dried out.......

My only gripe, is the song feels a little too long.

i like the overall ambience myself. its more floydian sounding. i wouldnt change the wetness. i would push the vocals up a little moreand i'd give it a pinch of more of highs overall. nice work.

Hey everybody- Thanks for the comments. Well, most of the wetness on the guitars (while there is a little bit of plug-in reverb) comes from either multiple mics, hence natural delay, or the spring reverb on the amp that I played the slide acoustic through. As far as the vocals go, I always try to push them back in the mix when its my own voice. Thanks again.

Anybody have a guess on the mystery instrument yet?

mystery instrument?

Hey
Cool tune. Moody and looming. I felt thier should have been more of a mean build to it. Might help to keep the listener gripped. Nice slide and tracking. I like the white noise but, I agree that it should be a little more controled. Cool tune, cool mix. Don't bury your vocal. There is no reason to.

Is the mystery instrument a wine glass, a third full of a cheap merlot, being vibrated with a moist finger circling the rim?
Well, you said you wanted guesses so, there.

Nice work
Theron

We have a winner folks! But actually its three different wine glasses with different amounts of water, loosely tuned to sound OK and recorded separately. Then I just messed around with the pan and volume envelopes to make it sound kinda spacey.
