So, this is the first song I've posted. I don't know if it's the best one I've written but it's the only one that's ready for prime time.
It was recorded on a Korg D-16 using on-board effects.

The name of the song is "Fatal Attraction". It's basic straight-ahead rock with a kinda hooky chorus and a pretty good guitar solo...at least I think so.

I'd appreciate any input you may have...thanks!

This is Hot!

A lot of work went into this mix! I like everything about it, especially the guitar lead (of course). The vocals are quite good; I'd like to hear them more forward in the mix. In fact, I think this is one of those tunes where the vocals should be in your face and should take no prisoners. They seem a little thin in the mix. I'd beef 'em right up, add a little to the lows, reverb, compression, the works. Give 'em a dose of testosterone.

How are things being panned in the final mix? I seem to be getting signal from everywhere. If you could get more separation, the tune might take on more drama, which I think is already in the tracks. Suppose you did something like the lead guitar coming in from 70% right, and the vocal harmonies loud and sibilant from 70% left, just to see what would happen?

This is a good road tune!

P.S. How do you like the Korg?

Good tune. The vocals are the weakest link at this point. The mix gets kinda jumbled up during the guitar solo.Other than that it's a good tune.

He's the one they call Dr. Feelgood... :p Uh Oh. Reminds me of old Motley Crue and Dokken type stuff. VOX are kinda weird. Kewl woodula...woodula...wooodula solo. Woooooodula woooodula wooooudla.....I like the playing and tones. This is some 80's rock and a half. The Playing is solid.

Thanks for the input...

Yeah, it's definitely an 80's throwback...but I was raised on that stuff so it's been incorporated into every fiber of my being!

The two rhythm guitar tracks are panned, drums were recorded in two tracks and are panned, but everything else is pretty much up the middle.

The vocals don't have much on them...just a little multi-tap delay. I need to work on EQ of the vocals because they always seem thin. The vocals are high and seem to record much more "tinny" than they are live.

Any suggestions on how to EQ the vocals to give them more "testosterone"?

BTW, I like the D16...lots of effects and easy to use. But, it's only really 8 stereo tracks and 8 mono tracks. A month after I got it, the D1600 came out with 16 stereo tracks, removable hard drive, and built-in CD burner. Oh well...

It shows man. That's some great stuff. I'm gonna listen again. Man that sounds pro. Dude, Pro. You must be good or something.
I really do like this recording.

Man AlleyCat,
Damn I've listened 3 times and once with my wife, and we both agree. What the hell is going on. Go somewhere and play guitar for someone. Man, that's phatt. I hope evryone else here that gives this a listen enjoys it. I, and my wife, certainly did. Thanks.

haha!! Excellent solo!!! Man that was good!! Definitely all the 80's ish sound comments, Crue etc.... I won't really comment on the style, but I will say that I think that may have been the most smokin' guitar solo I have heard around these parts...

good job!

nice tune. your mix seems swung over to the left a tad bit. the gtrs could be panned wider, and I think that would open your mix a little more....plus it seems dull sounding..lacking the crispies. Your solo is gets a little buried at times too. I think the vocal/music balance is nailed good. no comment on the drums(manual can opener...eh?). This would be 'the return of the metal zone' if you had a kick ass recording. There's alot of things you could do with your vocals...some cliche..some maybe not so, but a unique sound would benefit you best for originality.... good set of vocal chords...just needs a producer.

oh....the solo IS hot, but if you can't play at least 'that well', well...just say that there's 10 more waiting in the wings that can do the same..;)

Thanks for the help...

I appreciate all the input. It's great to get advice from people who actually know what they are talking about, instead of friends and/or relatives who just nod, smile, and say "Oh sure, sounds great!"

I can't take credit for the guitar work. The lead guitarist is my buddy Pat. I think he is a phenomenal guitarist (and sounds like most of you agree). He could definitely be pro if he wanted, but for some reason he wants to teach kids...go figure. Lucky for me I guess. ;)

I'll work on the mix, try to produce the vocals better, and I may actually add some keys at the beginning...hmmm.

I'll let you know when the new version is up...plus I have some other songs in the pipeline. Thanks again! :D

Needs more ass in the drums. I agree on the guitar player, he could be a force to be reckoned with. The vocals are the weakest part of the tune. I heard some intonation problems but that can all be fixed. Good effort. Tweak and come back.

I agree with most. Fix the kick and vocals up a bit. It does have a muffled sound overall.

Great tune! No real criticisms. Would like to see the vocals pulled up a little though. Good job.:)

I really like this song, especially the drums. The kick has that almost 'liquid esq', Vinnie Paul of pantara thing going on. Very very cool!

The solo is not really to my taste. At the risk of sounding boring, I prefer leads to be a tad more tasteful, with emphasis on phrasing rather than flash. But, I'm sure that if I could play like that, I would!

My only criticism would be the tone of the rhythm guitar. It comes across as very fuzzy sounding, and doesn't cut through enough for my liking. I find that the heaviest tones actually come from turning the gain down, rather than up. Listen to Van Halen 1, the guitar isn't very distorted, its just the way he plays! Having said that, I'm very new to engineering, so take what I say with a pinch of salt!

Humm??
If yanwee or Yngwie were alive today ....and he is .....
He would say you ripped him off big time on that lead....
flash is cool but grab a note and hang on it for a beat or two or four.

the rest of the song is cool....keep 'em comming
