are thare any room mic sounds from these sessions you have laying around?
(for the kit)

i'd like, if it's possible, to hear what the kit sounds like untouched, and then tell me what you did to get it here.

allong with other things it's a mistery to me as to how you got that snare sound out of a 57.

this specific kit sound is one that would be dam handy to have around, and if you can kick me any tips (besides get a drummer with a good kit) i'd appricate it.

Well actually the kit pretty much sounded like garbage in the room. lol. I don't know how it translated the way it did. Matter of fact the floor tom was missing a tention rod on the bottom head.

However, as soon as I can i'll get the overhead tracks in a high quality mp3 for you so you can hear. Basicly the processing went like this:

Toms:

(1) Compression/Gating: Compressor - Something like 5:1 compression with about 30ms attack and 200ms release
(2) PSP MixSaturator: 163hz on the low side with the boost at about 50% to really give the ass of the sound.
(3) BBE Sonic Maximizer (you'll find I use it a LOT): about 65% process with no low contour adjusment.
(4) Some attack boost at 3k and some woofiness removed at about 500hz or so.

Snare:

(1) Compression/Gating: SLAMMED with compression - about -30db thresh, something like 4:1 ratio, 35 to 40ms attack and automatic release.
(2) BBE Sonic Maximizer: about 80% mix +/-. No low contour.
(3) Slowly rolled off anything below 100hz. Slight attack boost at 3k ish. Maybe 2 db or so.

I know someone will talk shit about my using these "magic" plugins to cheat or whatever....but the way I look at it is....what the fuck? lol. Good sound is good sound. Period. It shouldnt really how you achieve it should it?

sounds good.
is it me or does the guitarist seem to be behind the beat in places....especially the beginning? right after the "whoo!" Maybe it's just the rhythm his playing that i don't like.
i lose the vocals in the middle, they get too buried. and i'd ease it back on the reverb at the beginning and in the spaces where it's just vocal. Around 2:38 there seems to be something up with the gate on the drums. It closes too soon for me when he stops playing and the attack doesn't seem to be set right when he comes back in. it might also be bad compressor settings on the toms...i don't know, maybe i'm hearing things and it's not the gate and it's how you like it.
overall, nice sound though. i like the guitar sound you got.
props

Great sound. But the toms are too 80s sounding man. maybe lay off the reverb or somthing. I actually thought the toms were MIDI!! sorry.

So you recorded the guitars and then put them through an amp sim? I gave that a try with the VST WARP plugin and it didnt sound the best. did you use a clean amp simulator setting?

One more question please if you will. What is a sonic maximizer? ive never come across one. Is it a plug in? if it is, who makes it.
Cheers.

that's funny, i thought the toms were the only good sounding instrument in the recording. while everything was passable, i've listened to that recording a couple more times, and it's really not working for me. it's got some clarity, but everything but the toms sound really thin and weak.
