New old tune...

Hey... heard this for the first time a few minutes ago. Just wanted to say everything I've heard from you is pretty awesome! You're a fine musician.

I'm looking forward to dipping into the 70s sounds soon too, good stuff! Love the feedback too btw...

I just realised I didn't answer Choctaw's question about the order I record stuff in. I do things pretty much backwards from most people. I usually lay down my guitar and bass tracks to a generic drum machine beat, then record the drums while listening to the tracks and using that generic drum mahine beat as a click track. Sometimes I do the vocals after that and sometimes I do the vocals after the guitars and bass are down, then do the drums very last. I'm just more confortable drumming to actual music as opposed to singing the song in my head while playing to a click track. Weird, I think huh?

I`m writing this as I`m hearing the song.
and man that outro kick ass, its as good as they get.
It almost reminds a bit of a yes outro, and I love Yes.

Huh that's really interesting; you get such a solid groove, you'd NEVER guess you track the drums last, though that's a great way to do it, starting with a drum machine and playing along. I might have to try that... I write backwards (chord progression first, then arrangement, THEN melody), but I record more conventional; I lay down a count track (my drum kit has a voice <ONE-ee-and-ah!>), I do drums first, then primary keys, then bass, the rhythm guitar, then synth pads and strings, then secondary guitars if applicable, then melody, then extra percussion if applicable... I never have to worry about vox, because I sound like a cat in a blender. :D
 
Hey, I'm another cat in the blender (on my own songs anyway) Yeah that's an interesting way of doing it. My process travels around... it's like this... I usually write my songs on a single acoustic somewhere cool, then go to a friend's place to try and match a drum part (love her drum setup). Then I bring the drum track home, record the rhythm guitar on top, change the tone on the guitar and record the lead ontop, and finally play a bass part over the whole thing.

If I want to completely change the song I can mess with the drum part or go back and redo it, then the loop starts over again!
