Well, of those eBay interfaces, the M-Audio isn't suitable. It's an old, discontinued model with no phantom. The Focusrite could be okay--but it depends on your attitude to used and what the bidding gets to.

For monitors, the advice to try and listen is good--there is a lot of personal preference involved. I personally like Tannoy Reveals in the economy end of the market and have heard good things about KRK Rockits (though never used them personally). If you win the lottery, have a look at the more expensive Genelec models!

Your £300 Dells won't be ideal but they would get you started--heck, even the earbuds from your MP3 player will get you started!

I kind of agree with the advice that a bit of background reading would help you. However, even more, I think it's time to buy one of the recommended packages and start experimenting. Seriously, a lot of what's being said and recommended will suddenly become a lot more clear when you start recording and mixing stuff--and the gobbledegook in the FAQs will suddenly make sense when you start actually doing it.

Unlike swimming, jumping in at the deep end with recording doesn't result in a drowning statistic--it's just a great way to learn!

Well put Bobbsy. :D

Who me? Central Mountain. Since I quit drinking, I only need 5hrs of sleep per day. I know, seems like I'm always on here huh? At least you don't ever have to feel like you miss me! lol

Cool bananas! Have fun and post some of your stuff for us to listen to!

The Saffire LE is an older design (from 2005 or 2006 if I remember correctly) but got good reviews. HERE'S the Sound on Sound review. I just had a look and Focusrite are still releasing drivers for it.

One thing...it's a Firewire interface...are you sure you have a Firewire port on your computer with a compatible chip set? That's something to double check straight away.

If so, then it would work for you...and, unlike mics, interfaces don't usually have much to go wrong.

Aah yes I do biddings ended it went for £85 in the end..oh well. Looks like still saving up then getting the £299 package..i cant find that package anywhere else cheaper so yeah

Hey guys I ordered the mic bundle it's coming tommorrow :) can't wait

Yep! And as I spent £300 I managed to get them to throw in XLR cables they said I would need for free and 24 Hour delievery! :)
I can't wait to use the new mic and set it up!!
Really can't. I'll have to show you guys my music sometime and post it on here.
I've just had a music video accepted on Sky Television in the UK on Chartshow TV :)
Quick question..my next mission is audio software..Ive got Cubase 5..do you think this will work well the mic?

There won't be any compatibility issues between the mic and DAW. If anything, there might be problems with the DAW and interface. And that shouldn't happen if you get the latest drivers.

Yeah? I see. Ive got quite a few softwares on my computer you see- from Sony Soundfordge, Adobe Soundbooth, Cubase 5, Magix Music Maker and Acoustica Mixcraft. But am thinking about using Cubase for this mic the only thing is I can't afford to pay for VSTs and Cubase doesnt seem to have many sites for free vsts. Also guys itll be my first time using an XLR mic and the Focus Sapphire 6, I'm trying to find tutorials on setting up for them but cant do you guys know any?

Ok, plug ins and DAWs are different. You can get tons of free plug ins on the internet. Mostly crappy, but some really nice ones too. You can run these on any DAW. And like I said, your mic isn't "extra compatible" with Cubase. It'll run fine on any DAW. Give Reaper a try. Free download, but you have to pay after 30 days. If you don't like it, delete it.

I had Reaper before and Im not going to lie I was naughty and had a crack version. Didnt really like the editing interface to be honest.I like Soundforge 9 and Cubase's interface although am only new to Cubase it's been pretty simple to pick up so far. Can you recommend any sites for good plugs in for cubase? ive tried searching and searching cant find any

Cubase uses 'VST' plugins. They will all work. How well, that is for you to decide.

Although Jimmy has a one track mind when it comes to interfaces :D , he has a diverse choice in plug ins. I've downloaded, and started using some of his recommended plug ins pretty regularly.
