I may have missed it in the thread, but what kinda interface are you looking?
Just a simple 1 or 2 channel jobby?

Sadly, moresound was wrong about re20s on ebay,,,well,,UK ebay anyway,
but interfaces can be found all day.

Search by brand rather than "audio interface". try tascam us, maudio, edirol etc.

Hi guys had a search and struggling to find alot of the equipment you are mentioning as Im UK Based and the shipping costs are phenomal.

Is the RE11 a good mic? Let me know. Im also struggling to find UK interfaces

As you're in the UK, you might try something like THIS BUNDLE from Digital Village there. A good mic plus pop filter (an essential) and a Reflexion filter which, unless the acoustics of your room are great, will also make a big difference in the quality of your recordings.

Edited to add: And THIS INTERFACE from the same supplier would work well for you. They also have the Focusrite range if you still want to go that way.

Being in the UK, you're going to find the American mics like Shure and EV will seem over-priced to you...because, compared to US pricing, they are.

Aaah a see. Well I didnt think Shure was overpriced. But I though hey £30-40 for a used Shure? This seems to good to be true! And from past experience those kind of second hand used mics that are cheap dont perform the best or the majority of the time are on their way to going.
Thanks for the UK links guys am i correct in assuming the sontronics stc 2 is a XLR mic?any opinions on it? As my friend uses this mic and Ive heard some of his stuff and it sounds amazing on it. The mic seems to perform well as well.
And yeah Im just going to be recording in 1 room really for university with headphones on if that helps and thanks guys Ill take a look at the links now and get back to you!!

And yeah I searched interfaces like that..but so many came up I didnt know which is good? See ive never used an interface before so I'd need to learn..can anyone promt me some good links for learning about interfaces and also recommend any good ones for a reasonable price range?

And Bobbsy I think I love you mate. Thats exactly the kind of set up am looking for..does the SE run from XLR?

Pretty much any mic not listed as 'USB', will have an XLR connector. :D You would still need to purchase an XLR cable with that bundle.

Jimmy69 has it exactly right--but, just to confirm, the mic I linked to uses XLR. FYI, it requires phantom power--but either the Focusrite or the interface I suggested will provide this on the XLR cable.

One additional thought for MasterRS...be a bit careful of any cheap Shure or Sennheiser mics you find on eBay in the UK. There are huge number of Chinese counterfeits there being sold as the real thing--even with fairly good fake packaging--but they sound like crap and break quickly. Basically, if a price sounds too good to be true it probably is. I tend to stick to reputable suppliers unless I know the eBay seller or he can provide evidence of where he bought it.

Yeah thanks for that info Bobbsy. When I was actually looking earlier on eBay one seller said that about SE. And i thought shit I'll have to be careful buying from eBay. Lol bloody foreign market eh always copying shit and confusing the newbies hahahaha lol.
Yeah well I think I'll probably get it from the supplier you recommended Bobbsy he seems the cheapest even in comparison to eBay. The only thing Ive found cheaper on eBay is the Interface you said. Theres a few used am watching and going to see but that kit am probably going to go for and that mic.
Can I ask u a few questions? Firstly how much and how do u connect a mic stand for that mic? Also you know it says it comes with the mesh? Well I'm going to be recording in one university room as am moving out of my 2 bedroom house so any ideas on best way to set up then? I'll be staying in a hotel for 1 year so not a huge amount of space? Also is it possible to get fake audio interfaces from abroad? Let me know thanks

The mic in my link comes with a shock mount that acts as a mic stand adaptor--if you were using just the mic the mount would screw onto the top of a mic stand. However, if you go with the bundle that has the reflexion filter, that is mounted on a bar that holds the curved screen at one end and has a screw mount for the mic at the other. This whole assembly goes on top of a standard mic stand (though make sure you get a decent one--the extra weight might be too much for the really cheap, flimsy ones. You don't need anything extra special though.

If you end up going for a second hand mic on eBay, make sure they include the stand adaptor for the mic--it can be a pain getting one to fit otherwise.

If you're going to be staying in hotel rooms or university dorms that you can't control the acoustics of, that reflexion filter looks ideal for you though--it's not the same as a fully treated studio but effectively lets you get a decent recording anywhere.

Finally, I've not heard of any counterfeit interfaces. I suppose there could always be a first time--but you'll likely be safe.

Hi Bobbsy guys. Wanted your opinion there was a seller on ebay called 'Music Matters' who has tons of excellent feedback and also in his description has advertised the item as real and he's an authorised supplier. He was selling the SE1 Mic Bobbsy said earlier just the microphone alone brand new for £99 which I thought was a bit steep due to the fact postage is free on his item and for an extra £30 u can get the bundle.
Anyway I made a offer of £80 he declined. I then offered £85. And he's now accepted. For just the microphone alone do you think this is reasonable for brand new? And do you know where I can get the shock mount it comes with? I know that the pop filters are cheap in Maplins but crap.
Do you know where I can get the Aluminium shock mount included etc cheap? Couldnt find any on eBay?

My personal opinion is to just buy new whenever possible. Especially for a person who really isn't sure of what they are looking at. Ebay can be a guessing game for even a seasoned gear guy. I once purchased an ART TPS II on Ebay, thinking it was an ART DPS II. Totally not what I wanted. :(

Is it an "SE1" or the "SEX1" I linked to?

The SE1 is an older small diaphragm condenser, now replaced by the SE1A. The SE1 was only so-so and not really suitable for what you want to do--the SE1A is a great mic for instruments but, again, not really suitable for what you want.

Yeah guys Ive just checked Bobbsy you gave me a link and recommended the X1 from SE Electronics as a Bundle for £189.But obviously as prior explained I copied and pasted that mic into eBay and this guy came up with the description above. He's shockingly accepted my offer for £85 and looking at his feedback looks genuine..what do you guys think? Do you think as its new brand new its a good deal? And do you think i'd be able to pick up the popfilter/shockmount/stand cheap on eBay for the item? I'm just waiting to bid on these items too for interfaces..Will you guys check them and let me know what u think is the best price to offer for each?

Condenser Microphone SE2200A is this better than the X1 u recommended or about the same..just someone on ebay is selling that for £60 its got 1 day left of bidding you see

Yup, that's the X1 I was suggesting...and at £85, a good deal. If it's really brand new, it should come with the shock mount/stand adaptor. That's how they come from the manufacturer. Check with the seller to make sure but I suspect it will be there.

Stands turn up cheap on eBay quite often...though it's often a deal on five or six at a time. You should find something eventually--though with something like a stand it might be worth wandering to your local music shop since shipping can be almost as much as a stand.

...and the Maplins pop screens work okay--the only issue I've had with a couple I bought when desperate is that the spring clamp that goes on the stand can be a bit loose--but a cable tie or a bit of tape sorts that out.

Wow...I can't keep up with you.

The SE2200A is a better mic--I have a couple and use them for lots of things, often in preference to some more expensive mics in my kit. Not to say there's anything wrong with the X1 but the 2200A will have a bit more detail in the upper mids and top end. It's a bit heavier and has a more bulky elastic mount but still works on standard stands. That price sounds very good if it's in good condition.

Of course, what works best on you voice is something we haven't explored yet!

Another advantage to buying new is the possibility of returning an item that you find does not suit your needs. Not sure though that microphones are covered by any suppliers for obvious saliva related issues.
