Oh ok. Well, a while back someone told me there was some behind the line PM crap going on, and I was just wondering if you were doing it too... and that's why I asked. Sorry.

Well, I suppose it is possible someone could not tell the difference between a Marhall MXLV67G and Studio Projects C1 either, even tho there is a difference.... so, I'll let you off the hook with your Yes/No answer. lol...

...But, I'd like the know the following.........

Also, "cominginsecond" is telling everyone (posting) that his B3 is just a B1 with extra pattens... did you or someone from PMI tell "cominginsecord" that the B3 and B1 sound the same?
Well, if the B3 only had one diaphragm it would be exactly the same. Trouble is, when you take single diaphragm capsule and put a diaphragm on the back, the characteristics of the front diaphragm change as a result.

For one thing the electronics are different in that they have to turn the back diaphragm off and on and change it’s phase to develop all those patterns. Now, you have a whole new set of rules: instead of the pattern occurring from the mechanics of one diaphragm and a backplate full of precision holes, you now have the pattern occurring from the electronics changing the phase between the two diaphragms.

So really, the answer IS kind of yes and no – Yes, because the front diaphragms and basic amplifiers are the same, and no, because the added “phase shifting electronics and extra diaphragm changes things a bit. That's the way I see it, anyway.

The B3 and B1 are distinct mics. The B3 is an OK multipattern budget mic. The B1 is an impressive cardioid mic of very low price. The B1 seems to be fairly neutral in flavor. The B3 seems to be kind of between a B1 and a C1.

So, it's like I said in the first place... The B3 and B1 sound different and B3 and B1 are not the same.

Thanks guys.

New Mic

Hey, I didn't mean to cause a problem. You boys sure get worked up about mics. Anyway, I got the RNC and RNP UPS and what can I say except I'm real happy with the purchase. Makes the NT1 a different animal. I also have an SM 58. I just ordered an SP TB1 (Thanks Chris). Me thinks my next purchase will be an AT4033. I'd like a classic and this seems priced within reason. This forum has been a great source of info for me and I'd like to thank you all.
I think I'll go record my Larrivee...........

BTW: That thread with Harvey Gerst is somethig isn't it.
