Similar to other "New Garage" thread I would appreciate ideas
on how to divide this newly constructed space. Dimensions
are 24ft by 13ft9in. Interior ceiling height is 10ft6in along the
north(top) 24ft wall, sloping down to 8ft along the south
(bottom) long-wall. I would like to keep the control room as
small as is acoustically feasible and dedicate the remaining
space to a single (large as possible) performing room. I would
like the room as "live" and "open" as possible, with particular empahsis on getting a full, open drum sound that could be miked "as a whole" versus the modern obligatory buttload of discrete mikes and mixer channels. Additionally,
I would hope to decently record a live roots-rock-trio without everybody having to "go to their room" to play. To sum up, I would greatly appreciate advice about dividing the space, the shape of the sub-divided spaces and minimal trapping, dampening, ect. that would be appropriate for this senario. The interior is just bare framing and I would prefer to use common building materials to create the neccessary acoustical appliances rather than buying the high priced "dedicated" treatments that are marketed for project studios. If my scheme sounds off-base I might add that I was lucky enough to record with Norman Petty shortly before his death, and he seemed to fare pretty well without a lot of segregation.
