I liked having a dual bootable system, back in my PC days.
One for studio one for internet ect.
Disabled all internets ect on the studio boot, never had a problem, ran fine for 5 years or so. Until it was time to upgrade.

Don't care.

I say do what I plan on doing when my PC Audio Labs pc gets old...GO MAC G5!!! or 6??? by then. Or you could get one easily custom made by PC Audio Labs. Great customer support, rock solid, and runs super quiet. Even got it in a nice rackmount case for $100. Check em out: PCAudioLabs

I've never used a mac. They're expensive and seem quirky and I'm just not interested in them. I'm not an apple guy. I have an iphone, but I don't even use itunes.

Anyway, I got my 6 year old shit unvirused and cleaned up and man, it runs great now. This bitch runs like a new 2007 model! :D

Nice! Just get the virus and malware shit mentioned earlier going and mirror your drive. Then forget about worrying about viruses all together.

I still wanna get a mega-machine, but now that this old bitch is working good again I have time to prepare/research/procrastinate. Thanks for the help, fellas.

Sorry, but AVG is pretty much useless against the most common viruses these days. Many programs are.

I would recommend the following trio of programs for virus / malware protection / removal under XP:

* Microsoft Security Essentials. Its a free download from Microsoft, it does real-time protection, and it will catch most older viruses. Won't catch the new ones, but neither will AVG, Norton, or McAfee either.

* Malwarebyte. Catches most newer malware. Free version doesn't do real-time, so run it every few weeks or if you are suspicious. Remember to update it before running it. A free download from Download.com: Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Downloads

* Combofix. The best "nuclear" bomb to drop on tough virus problems. Doesn't work (yet) with Windows 7. Only download it when you are ready to run it, because it changes every few days, you can find it here: Bleeping Computer Downloads: ComboFix Download

Malwarebytes and other scans found nothing. I did a combofix, and that's what I think fixed my problem. It really was like dropping a nuke. :D

GO MAC G5!!! or 6???

MAC G6

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
They never made it past G5 before the switch to Intel, sorry.
But yeah Greg, get a MAC G5. It's always good to replace your old computer with something older and less useful.

That's what I like about some of the Apple people. It's not a computer for them so much as Scientology is a computer to Tom Cruise.

Yeah I find Mac people to generally be pretty retardedly fanatical about apple products, no matter what they are. They'd buy a re-issue 8-track player if it were made by Apple.

really? I have used it for years and have never had a virus - of course I don't use torrents and surf with Chrome so maybe that's why... AVG updates daily - thanks for the links though - I will keep those handy in case of emergency :)

There is no virus or malware protection out there that is 100% effective. It would be impossible to guard against every possible threat.

I was using google chrome when all this shit started.

I would buy a reissue 8-track even if it wasn't made by Apple. :laughings:

You could mount it to your vespa and your hipster transformation would be complete.

I sometimes lug my MacBook Pro home from work on that thing, just to look extra faggy. Jellus?
