We need Bob Barker to organize this pool...

I'd be the dude that bids $1.

I think there is an avalanche of money to be made by someone with a golden reputation to produce an affordable two channel that bucks the status quo of boutique gear pricing. What if the RNP was a little prettier and had the word Neve on attached to it? It could have sold for $1,000 and we'd probably all have one. So, my guess is ol' Neve is cashing in his "rep points", if you will. This box will be great, will cost $1000msrp, and will sell like hot cakes.

this is fun. i assume that he's employed some really smart people who's job it is to figure out 'what the market will bear'. Personally, I think sub 1500 and he'll sell a ton of them. But they've decided to manufacture them in the US so that makes me think that he's unconcerned with a price point and maybe more concerned with the quality. Quality costs money. American workers cost money. His name is apparently worth a lot of money so I'm going to guess high. msrp $3995.

Let's hear how it sounds. Then the cost will mean something.

You would think so, but actually the fact that it says "Neve" is most important. Just ask an engineer in a pro studio what they think about your Vintech or other Neve clone etc, and they will say something like "It's nice, but it's not a Neve..." So in fact, the name is more important than the sound.
Weird, huh?

Never underestimate the power of perception. People in marketing go to school for YEARS to learn how to make that very concept work to their advantages. People see through their very own shade of rose... always have done, always will do.

Nothing against Sir Neve, but hav9ing the name on it will only go so far. If it will be truly succesful it will hav to sound good first of all, and sell for a fair price secondly. I love the whole "Neve" sound, but not all the pros are lining up to buy everything Rupert touches. A lot of people love to throw the Neve name around. The name itself kind of stands for that old Neve sound that everyone loves, but people love to market the name as well. Look at the Amek stuff. I like the sound of the Ameks as well, but I hate when people advertise it as Neve gear. It's not Neve, its Amek, designed by Rupert Neve. They sound VERY different from the classic Neve's. Then there is the people that want to tie Rupert Neve into Focusrite, and Amek/Tac etc... Sure some of it is great gear, but is often misrepresented by using the name "Neve".

Just wanted to keep some things in line:)

How is it a misrepresentation if Neve actually designed some of the focusrite and Amek stuff? I understand the whole vintage phat sounding dark neve, but pigeon holing the man's gear to one sonic tone isn't fair IMHO.

It is misrepresentation to call something a Neve preamp when it was only design assistance by Rupert Neve. If he just assists in the design of a Focusrite preamp, that does not mean it is a Neve preamp. What it means is that it is a Focusrite preamp in which Rupert Neve assisted in designing. Primarily my post was not directed at companies and advertisers though, just those people that are trying to sell something second hand and calling it a Neve preamp.

I certainly don't want to "pigeon hole" anyone into any one sound. In fact, I rather like the Amek preamps and EQ's. No doubt though that they are VERY different sounding than the classic Neve stuff.

I also post stuff like that so that a new person who may be reading though gets a little understanding that they can't go out and buy a Focusrite and go home and use it to get that classic Neve sound.

If it says Neve its got to be good right?... :D

I was saving for an Avalon but I think I may hold off till I hear how one of these sound.

This is truly amazing. He is actually coming out with a dual preamp, preamp/EQ, Tape simulation module, a Quad Buss amp/monitor, something called a high precision preamp, a stereo compressor module and a DI box.

If the sound of his prior efforts is in these modules, this might just set the boutique market on its end.

Yep, two channels for 1440. I see there is an input transformer but could not quite tell if there is an output transformer too.

Wall warts though, ugh.

Yeah, 720 a channel for something from that man's brain is nothing. That's a steal all in all. I could be wrong, but I'd bet the farm on this one being pure gold...

Some of us here at HR discussed this approach almost 4 years ago in one of the old threads. A low cost module approach to building a mixer.

Rupert has delivered basically $800 - $1500 modules that could be assembled into a world class mixing console. With the tape emulation, stereo compressor and Quad buss module, you have a nice low end mastering unit too.

I was 3 weeks away from having enough money for an API preamp/power supply. Now I don't know what to do.....

mmmmmmm......neve....

This could very well be the pre I've been saving up for....but need to hear it first. As soon as anyone has any experience w/ one of these, please let all of us know how you felt about it.
