i have £500 to spend on some new equipment. My current set up is a pc with a yamaha sw1000xg soundcard running cubase sx2 hooked up to reason 2.5. Im using a rode nt2 mic with a behringer 1204 desk and an alesis 3630 compressor. Im attempting to record acoustic guitar/vocals. What could my system benefit from? would i notice the difference of a better compressor? Also, this may seem a bit thick of me but i was wondering if the mic cable length has any affect on the signal, as i have 2 joined together to record in another room?

Thanking you in advance for your help!!!!!

If it's an unbalanced cable then size matters.

I'll second the monitor suggestion. XLR cables carrying balanced low impedance signals (like a mic) are theoretically good for about 300 meters. If they are decent quality I wouldn't worry until you start going over 30 meters.

yeah I'll say monitors too. whats 500 euros in american dollars?

Sir Cliff

Never used one myself but I've never heard a good word said about the 3630 (I recently bought a new compressor and was steered away from the alesis many times).

Loved your acapella at Wimbledon by the way.
