Need soundcard recommendations.

While this is not geared towards recording specifically, I'm sure a few of you here may have some ideas on a card to get based on my requirement's.

Requirements are a followed:

1) PCI Interface
2) S/PDIF Coaxial Input and Output
3) #2 is to NOT be on any sort of breakout cable, etc. I'd prefer it right on board, like the M-Audio Audiophile 192.

Any other alternatives than the M-Audio (I like the M-Audio, just wanted to see if anyone here knows of others I could consider).
 
I am also looking to replace my Sound Blaster ZS2. So I would love to hear what others are using. I would love card that can play back at 24 bit 192khz.

I tried to post a new poll and the same subject since the other one was three years old. It never showed up though :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused:

Why do you care about #3? In terms of long-term reliability, the breakout cable is much less likely to fail, since I have never seen an RCA jack that's case-mounted, while pretty much every DB-9 or larger connector is mounted to the metal backplate. That one just seems bass-ackwards to me.

I'm going for quality. I'm not concerned about it failing, once it's hooked up I will rarely touch it.

I really don't think there's a correlation here. My Lynx L22 card ($675- 2ch + DIO) uses a breakout cable for AES/EBU and S/PDIF, and their quality is beyond reproach. For manufacturing a S/PDIF only DIO, it's less costly to board mount a couple of cheap RCA connectors than to make a breakout cable. Nothing wrong with you wanting it that way, but I don't think you should conclude that it indicates a better quality implimentation.
