im new to this forum but ive been reading for awhile, i have a little experience in recording i own a little tascam analog 4 track, ive done a whole lot using that and various instruments, but i am always disapointed with the sound, i want to bulid a computer and turn it into monster designed for clutch digital recording, only problem is i know nothing about digital recording, well i have a basic knowlege but nothing beyond, if any one has any suggestions for a basic set up, sound cards, software anything i could sure use the help

all depends on how much money you have to spend. just do a search on the entire forum here. everyone at one time or another seems to ask the same question. I'm sure you can get some ideas from the replies. good luck.

value for money.....
1.amd barton 2ghz system, 512 ram, two 7200 rpm hard drives
plus all the usual stuff (monitor etc)
2.sound card ....delta 44 perhaps ? or if you only need stereo
audiophile 24/96
3.multitrack software magix music studio 2005. you wont need anything else.
70 bucks.
4.mixer - alto are pretty decent to my ears or try the new yamaha mg series
mics.....just demo a bunch. including CAD mics which a lot of folks like A LOT !
5. or if you cant afford a mixer build your own mic pre's. for ten bucks. ;ots of schematics on the net. not much diff with commercial pres.
for example soundclick.com/bmanning the song take my love was done using a mega console, while the song up in the sky and many others on there were done using a diy mic pre. but TAKE AN ELECTRONICS COURSE
so you design mic pre's SAFELY. lots of schematics on the net.
one i like is the TAOS mic pre diy.
peace.
