Looking for a full critique. I did not record this, but was asked to post it for a review.

I'm pretty sure I've heard that song before. For inoffensive background college bar-'music' it's entirely listenable.

(i don't have a counter on my web player)
- the intro rips off "sweet jane" by the velvet underground

- 1 4 (G, C?) verse.. uninspiring

- the chorus rips off "when i come around" by green day

- the singer is over-enunciating, it's hard to hear the lyrics.. it's sort of a barenaked ladies kinda vibe, which i'm sure is intentional.

- lyric line "don't you know that i wouldn't change a thing" I think that's been done before....

all kidding aside ...its really well recorded ..i only made it about 1:30 in ..so ... :o
i dunno, it seems liek the singer is trying too hard to sound "earnest" and heartfelt" but it sorta sounds like a kareoke version of someone who actually is ..i think hes a good singer tho ..nice tone ..all that .

out of 5 stars ...i say "**"
 
the best part of that song is the kickdrum. by far. i'm listening on headphones and the kick is pleasantly punchy.
 
SHIATZU's review is pretty much how I heard it. Minus the Green Day reference. I didn't really hear "When I come Around", but "Sweet Jane" for sure. It's certainly not a bad song and it's well played, but not very original. The vocalist has a good voice but an annoying style, like he's just trying too hard. Nice drumming and drum sound. Drums are the best thing about the tune. Overall, in my opinion, a well played forgettable song.
 
Song reminds me of 3 Doors Down meets Hooty. Not bad, and it seems well recorded, but doesn't do much for me. Nice voice, and good drum sounds. Actually all sounds are well recorded, and mixed. Song structure itself, is good, but basic.

Everyone has pretty much said it all, when the vocalist first came in, my first thought was "someone trying to sound like John Mayer".... especially the way he was slurring his words, a technique that fully annoys me personally....lol

anyone can sing like a radio DJ.....

nice recording though, and that drummer is pretty tight.

the chords and melody are strikingly similar to the "No time to search the world around, Cause you know where I'll be found" part in that green day song.

Re: the recording, it'll probably end up being played on a lo-watt college radio station by a freshman DJ who doesn't know how to set proper levels on the board, so honestly, the recording sounds perfect for what it'll be used for.

To quote Strongbad:
"College radio can be summed up in 5 words: 'dead air, ummm, dead air"

I'd really like to hear what you guys think of the three recordings. What you like and dislike about each.

And a tad over bright.

Of the intruments that should carry the "warmer" frequencies...i.e. acoutic gtr, and definetly bass there is a definete lack.

Also the overheads/cymbals equasion of the kit seemd guilty for the over brightness.

That's what I was looking for. :D

I think the first one sounds pretty good, but the negs IMHO are what you stated, as well as I think the snare sound is pretty dull.

I listened to the first track. Very clear, well defined mixing, but a little shy in the lower mids, to my ear, listening at low and high volume. FWIW, I tried a +2 dB wide bell filter @350 Hz and it sounded just right to me.

The recording sounds good but a little too much top end.

Bass guitar needs a little more definition.

The singer needs his mates to make it clear to him that the world dosen't need another Rob Thomas, and we might even like his natural voice.

Great drummer, huh?

1 4 = G C?? what is it in G major? could be C major dude 1 5 but whatever. Nothing sounds anything like greenday in this. But the guitars do sound like hootie and the blow fish. Anyway it sounds like something that could be on VH1 in the 90s.
