Blew the right ns10's bass driver today. Think I fried the coil. When you push the cone in and out it sounds like brocken glass grinding. Anyway I know some of you will say ns10's suck but I'm just wondering if replacement speakers are available here in Australia. Need it pretty badly. Soon.

Scott,
Try Yamaha Aust.....Ph; 1800 805 413, I would presume they will be open tomorrow. People there are pretty helpful usually.

Thanks mate, I'll call them tomorow for sure. Really sucks not being able to mix with monitors. Had to record with headphones, bit risky but I won't mix it till the cones fixed.

That really sucks!!! Just curious...how did you blow it?

I'll tell ya if you, promise not to laugh.
When we record we usually jam it a bit till where ready to go. So I had the marshall bowin and Phil was drumming away and singing into a spare sm57 (and here's the funny or stupid part) plugged through to the ns10's. You know they actually sound great as a vocal playback when jamming till we kept turning it up and up and then....boom. It was starting to sound very distorted just before it blew. The tweeter is ok its just the bass driver. Now when you push the cone in you can feel the damage.

We've done this for the past year with no problems.

But I think I'll get a wedge and a cheap amp for vocal jamming.

I actually thought I'd blown the preamp when I first heard just the treably sound coming out of the speakers. So I tried another channel, same thing. I thought fuck, I've blown my preamps. I was releaved to find that it was just a bass driver. Still sucked though.

I thought an NS10 Speaker only had 1 bass driver.... This right and left makes no sense...

:D

Sorry, I had to....

Hurah, Yamaha Australia sent me to a place called Prime Elecronics at Flemington (Sydney) where I was able to pick up a new bass speaker. Part No. XN 542 A00
Cost $154.30 Australian, which would be aprox. $80.00 US.
Had to fit it myself but wasn't to hard. Thanks ausrock, for the phone number.

My NS 10's are fine, but Im thinking of ordering a replacement all the speakers, just to have for an emergency....

Im worried that soon we won't be able to buy parts for these wonderful monitors anymore.

I don't know what I would do if I couldn't use my NS 10's... Im liable to just quite recording and mixing all together in a situation like that:D

Then and again, chances are I won't blow any of mine, since I don't use them as a PA system like some people (not naming any names.....SCOTT! ):D

I didn't, I wasn't, I, um,.........ok I did, I did, I did, ok, happy now. HE he.

It works out cheaper to buy a new pair than to buy just the speakers. Buy up, they'll be worth a fortune when theres none left. like old mics.

Yeah, I know, but the problem is finding a new pair these days...

Yes already rare. Better buy up on the speakers then. I think they dicontinued them with plenty of spares left. But that wont last forever. Not with something this popular. I got the last bass driver fromPrime Elecronics, but they said they can order more. Hope so.
