A fig 8 mic is a dual diaphragm mic, like Richard said and because of the design the mic is as good as completely deaf on the side.

It rejects way more than a cardioid.

And stoctony, it's not that hard to understand, go to www.dpamicrophones.com (microphone university)

You will find the many stereo mic techniques there with nice drawings. XY, AB, ORTF, NOS, MS, Blumlein, Jecklin disc, Decca tree a.o.

Hope this helps.

something else to add: you're not going to get a pro sound using Elixir acoustic strings. These sounds like complete ass. Get some good martin strings.
Well.....

I personally would never use Elixir strings to record my own accoustic guitar. I don't like the sound of them. However, my primary recording band only uses Elixir on the accoustics, and I'd be lying if I said we haven't recorded some wonderful accoustic guitar sounds.

My point: I don't like 'em, but they will work.

Han thanks for the feed back. The "twangy" sound that elixirs give you in kindof the sound that i am looking for. that and how long they last is really why i like them

Richie, once again I am not dissapointed. I think you really got it this time. every room i have has a huge untreated wall in it, and the muddyness is my biggest contender right now. I have some blankets hanging on my booth but i will try more blankets/ sleeping bad and maybe back out of the booth some more for the room sound. Thanks as always.
