All you have is now
Just dropping in to say I have recorded a few tracks in my new Logic Pro 12.3.1 set up....Mac mini m4 running my Yamaha MODX in as the midi controller. Currently the Beri Flow 8. as the mxier / interface. Using Chat GTP and Gemini to help me get rolling ( Love / Hate experience)

I downloaded Finneas O'Conors Logic Template of Ocean Eyes. It was Finneas's success with his bedroom produced album that pushed me to walk away from windows and Reaper and dive into the Ap-HELL eco system.... Overall I am very impressed and a little over optimistic of how this is all going to play out..We'll see.

Regarding Finneas template..... First off it is important to note those 5 grammy winning song were built 100% of Logic stock plugins.

The ocean Eyes template has 42 tracks but within those 43 tracks ar a lot of takes and combined tracks....his craziness in use of the plugs is noteable and daunting.

Today I was able isolate all the effects and routing for the main Ocean Eyes vocal fx chain and able to drop my raw vocal in its place...I can use this vocal chain in other songs I record with all it's effects exactly as he used them or I can cherry pick through and use what I want...I'm old and the memory is a bit sketchy but I'm learning and hopefully can get to pushing the red button more often without having to involve myself with the insanity and minutia of typical DAW recording...KISS recording.

I'll post some tracks soon of me using the OE vocal chain....my voice sounds lush..... kind of Billie Ei"lush"ish :laughings:

Where did you find it ? I found it on GumRoad - the lastest Logic update erase the one that came automatically.

Why do you think that's significant? They probably didn't have the money for plugins - but that aside the Logic Plugins are fantastic - I barely use my other plugins anymore.

It appears O'Connor is either a natural at recording - or he had immense help - I can't tell.

Yeah I just googled and found it...It was a PITA to get working because my Flow 8 is locked at 48hz and the original template was 44hz but I fingered it out

It's just crazy cool I'm sure they were working with limited resources.....Based on His / their success no one can argue that they need
"more gear" for me sure throws a wet blanket on all the marketing hyperbole and the GAS syndrome..... With strictly only using what comes with Logic anyone who has the desire and patience can make audio recordings of extremely high quality....

I would definitely say he is a smart and talented musician who definitely figured out how to get excellent recordings out of his home box.. Not sure about who he knew that might have mentored or helped him...He mentioned learning from others on Youtube... He pulled this off before there was AI

Obviously I'm a fan and looking at this template and clicking on the minutia that is within it like tons of takes on a single track, crazy deep effect chains...leaves me to believe he is totally OCD, ADD and KookY Krazy as labels come.

I have a couple of hundred Waves plugins - they have never blown me away - and I barely use them at all - especially the CLA/Puig Fairchild stuff - most of it just emulates what Logic gave me already - although there a few plugins I use - the Pulsar's Mu for one - it's a glue machine unlike any - but in the last 15 years I've stopped the gas attacks - I just don't agree with the idea that a plugin will save a track - I find that musical ideas save tracks -

His use of track blending and plugins doesn't seem radical - so maybe he did come up with it - but I know a lot of Engineers - and he emulated some of them really closely - so maybe he got the inspiration from engineers but that he took to new level.

That could be true - I've heard him talk a few times - and at least live he doesn't come across that way - more thoughtful and exacting than OCD.

Agreed ...He is a pretty level headed, down to earth guy. Very cool of him to share an inside peek into his workflow.....

BTW I'm loving Logic but have a long way to go ...That template is very educational...I have a lot to learn but I have been able to get my set up working and got some tracks recorded. Used the splitter to dissect a mp3 into stems. Isolated The vocal track effects chain in Ocean Eyes and saved it as an functioning add on of effect chains...really does some magic to a raw vocal. I have some big asperations to fulfill..

Really - what did you find interesting about the vocal chain? It's pretty standard.

The vocal chain itself is a great set up, though I would not know what is standard or not because I am a newb to Logic. It is not especially the vocal FX chain in of itself but how Finneas uses that chain completely different on each of the 24 tracks and again differently with each of the Comp'd takes within those tracks that has kind of blown me away of the endless possibilities available to us now. Beow is a snap shot of the vocal tracks for Ocean Eyes and when you click on a track a variable amount of other tracks opens up where he tweaks each of those. Some tracks with no extra "takes" some with 30+ Just kind of mind boggling as a newb with logic and really with going beyond recording a track, putting a little reverb and compression on it, mixing the multi tracks and calling it good...This is so much more than that. The composition trick, being able to record several tracks and in minutes easily slice and dice them all into one smoothly transitioned audio track is a HUGE (new to me) game changer in getting a take that I am totally happy with. Still just chipping away at the tip of the iceberg here. The main reason I moved to Logic from Reaper was to be able to speed up the recording process and avoid all the time sucking fiddling with software when all I really I want is to be performing and recording those performance and get a good final mix. Maybe I am just getting more comfortable with doing this stuff but it sure seems like I am able to be able to get more done more quickly with my new shiny red bicycle called Logic Pro...I could be experiencing the new pair of tennis shoes that definitely makes you run faster and jump higher effect but I am liking the feeling I am getting.
