LOL @ chrisharris for falling for it.

BTW, "I'm a girl" is the lamest reason of all for not doing your own research. Good luck using that as an excuse for not making an effort for the rest of your life.

No, I meant people thought I was a guy I was just clarifying that I'm a girl, I didn't mean "I'm a girl so obviously I don't understand" sorry if it came across that way. Thanks for the help Chris, this was much easier than going through pages of google. I've put your name as a reference on my presentation to show you as part of research and to give you some credit.

LOL @ Chris - good luck explaining that to the authorities :)

@angelling31 If you are really a 16 year old girl then I am sorry for being so harsh with you - I assumed you were a lazy american 18 year old college student who was going to music production school. You should have pout more information in your initial post. At least you can blame Chris when you fail your exam! :D

Peruse Texas' Death Row for other folks that used Chris as a reference.

lol...if I was ever dumb enough to defend a criminal defendant, that is probably where he'd end up...even if the charge was shoplifting.

I did answer all your questions in a Personal Message earlier today - I thought you would not come back here after all the vitriol so sent it as a PM.

So look in your PM in-box and you will see a detailed answer from me.

Good luck.

Oooh sorry, I only got the email that people replied to this post, not about a PM, thanks a lot, I'll credit you too.

Can I just say that a) I'm from England so when I say college I mean what you guys would call high school (I'm 16). B) I have googled, all they do is give me products and wiki doesn't exaplin it simply enough, I've checked out the book 'modern recording techniques' like my teacher suggested that was waaayyyy to complicated. I'm not asking anyone to do my studying for me, I've already completed the rest of the presentation that i need it's just this one page that I'm stuck on. Why is it so much just to ask for some help? When someone explains what the terms mean I will be able to finish using my own words, but instead everyone has taken it upon themselves to be horrible. I just needed some help but it seems no one is willing to be serious and instead wants to call me stupid, I'll look elsewhere then, thank you for your time. Last of all: I'm a girl.

That's all fine and well, but I don't buy it.

Your definitely not getting credited on the paper

Hell, in this country you could end up in jail for just having an online conversation with a 16 year old kid. (male or female) Of course, unless you're a kid yourself, why would you want too.

And I still don't buy it .......................

the thing is, coming to a board, registering and asking people to define terms for you and then having to go back ..... look thru the responses and figure out which ones are decent is a LOT more work than simply googling the terms in the first place.
Yeah, granted, which is why I felt that saying it represented laziness and lack of effort wasn't accurate. Unless the OP was just going to take the answers verbatim without then further checking, then she had some work ahead of her. To go through the hassle of registering, posting, getting an on line roasting then coming back to say thanks kind of says something in the OP's favour, methinks.
if the definitions on wikipedia are too hard to understand then our explanations aren't going to be any more comprehendable.
Not sure about that. Sometimes, not always but sometimes, getting explanations in real time from a current human being that can be questioned further for clarification beats those stock, standard explanations. Sometimes, I'll read things like those product descriptions looking for just one piece of information and try as I might, either it's not there or the way things are put makes it difficult and sometimes impossible to know if that's the answer !
Yeah, some of us here talk techno~babble {and plenty understand it}, but sparingly, some don't. It reminds me of this Scottish football manager that once said "You see, we talk the language of the people, not like politicians who try to keep you ignorant by talking a language people don't understand. We keep it easy. Instead of saying 'he displayed avariciousness' We'd say 'He was bloody greedy !'"

Here's what popped up in the search engine results without even having to actually GO to any site: "A near-field speaker is a compact studio monitor designed for listening at close range" ..... if she can't understand that then it's ridiculous to think we're gonna spoon-feed it anymore than that.
Agreed. But the word 'monitor' alone has more than one application and I can see how a mid teen might wonder and how some confusion might set in, especially early on.
I'm with you on this; I think spoonfeeding is counter productive. I believe in stretching the mind and being, not spoonfeeding them. But I'm also conscious that there's a point of "knowledge generation" {:laughings: :laughings:~sorry, I can't believe I came up with that waffle !:spank:}that can be important before it becomes spoonfeeding. Getting the balance is the trick.

Spoonfeeding my eye. You wanna give it to her by direct injection.

If you've worked half your life with kids, they cease to hold any fascination or mystery and therefore, giving advice is no big deal. We talk to Kidcage don't we ?

I hope you know I was just kidding ..................

Mais oui, mon ami !
By the way, there's a Southport in England, right next to Liverpool.

I have read packaging, downloaded the manual, checked the website and STILL not found clear information on a feature I am looking for - it's like they are purposely obscuring the facts! And I wonder - If I think this is a critical and important feature - then other people must think the same thing! Why would they not clearly state it SOMEWHERE. I think what happens is the people writing the stuff just take it for granted that it is some certain way and it goes without saying, but it certainly does not go without saying - especially when there are similar products on the market and some do and some do not have a specific feature.

Then I usually post here and try to find someone that actually uses it and ask them...
