Need Help!!1

First off sorry I am posting in 2 threads because it relates to both of these I just bought my Tascam 428 yesterday and can't get it to record through the mic inputs when I hit the record button it will just record whatever I have in track 1 (the beat for the song) and I can hear the mic coming out of my speakers but it wont record anything from it the green LED light is on for signal input as well
 
Forgot to say I'm using Cool Edit 2.0 but I would really like to set it up using the Bundled Cubase VST that came with it but that's not working at all can't even get it to record anything so cool edit is fine for me
