I've got Reaper installed on my PC. I have a mic plugged into my Audiobox interface. I have a track armed and it's displaying input signal, but when I hit Record, nothing is being recorded on the track. No doubt there's some audio settings that are wrong.

If we could walk through whatever are the relevant settings so I could get recording, that would be great.

Thank you. I'll check it out and get back. I really need to make this work so I can do my troubleshooting for the initial thread; "clicks" in recorded tracks and "ghost clicks" that you hear in playback, but you back up to hear them again, and they're gone. I suspect it's the Audiobox96, but I need to use it on a Reaper recording to see if the "clicks" reoccur. I'm betting they won't.

Reaper Mania on Youtube has a wealth of instructional videos. Kenny Gioia has been producing them for years. When you get to a stumbling point, or can't figure out how to set something, just put it in the search bar on his channel and you'll probably find several videos with step by step instructions.

Talisman, I have carefully followed everything shown in Kenny's video and I'm still not getting any vocal to record on the track. Let me attach some screenshots for verification.

Please disregard previous message. I had troubles with inserting images. I will just attach them instead.

OK, I have followed that video to the letter, and I'm still not getting any vocal recorded on the track. See attached images. First image - Reaper obviously recognizes my Audiobox. Second image - you can see evidence of incoming signal in mixer and the track. I would gladly reward you in any way you choose if you could help me solve what I'm guessing is a minor - but critical - detail.

There is a wave form in your pic. Looks like you are getting audio. If I am interpreting correctly, you can't hear yourself record. If that is the case, the speaker icon next to the record button you need to click on/off for monitoring.

Otherwise, everything in your setup looks like it is working. Unless the wave image is not what you are recording.

If it is any help to you, I have prepared a 20 page summary of Reaper commands/actions covering just about everything I need to record/mix/ master etc. This is (I think) a good summary of the 700-page official manual. If you want it I can attach it to a reply from you. This forum has been VERY helpful to me, so it is payback time for me ! Brian

DM60 - I can hear my voice in the headphones. I cannot get the signal recorded on the track.
BriamJH - please attach your summary. Thank you.

OK, on the track you have armed it, then you push the record button. Hopefully I didn't insult you. But the button is to arm the track to record, then you click record in the record/play button.

I apologize if I insulted you, just looking for the obvious as it seems your system is all working from the pics.

No worries. Yes, I did everything in the proper order; armed the track, then hit the Record button. No signal recorded on track. >:(

Yea, even if your mic was broke, you should get a flat line signal. I am assuming you can hear track one?

The screenshot you have, is that after you recorded on track 2? There should be something showing there. If you could, hit record, record a couple of seconds and then take the screen shot. Lets see if it is even recording.

Track one is playing properly. I just can't seem to get the signal to show on the track. Which is puzzling since I can see evidence of input in both mixer and track. But it doesn't record. I'll try this again in a while but I'm up against the wall here. I've repeated these moves numerous times, trying to figure out WHY if Reaper recognizes my interface, AND I can see evidence of input signal, WHY isn't it showing up on the track?? NOTE: don't know if this is significant, but I put a little reverb on the track, and I cannot hear that in the headphones, and I think I SHOULD be able to hear it. But no matter. That's now what's important.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate you guys trying to help me out and I just hope I don't seem lame to you. I've been in the business over 50 yrs.
Whoever helps me crack this case, I will gladly send you a personal check in gratitude for your help. I really need to make this work.

First, when you first start out, if you are not a computer guy, it is not straight forward. I was lucky, I was a computer guy, but didn't know shit abut recording. In hindsight, recording is harder than the computer stuff ;)

If you don't hear the VST, you are hearing the interface direct feed back through your headphones. OK, one more thing, after you record, you should see a pop up that asks you if you want to save the file. Do you get that pop up? If not, it might be popping up behind a screen and not saving your file.

And I was a performing/recording guy first, starting out on tape, then to the first digital stand-alone's and then finally to software. I recorded in an RCA studio at age 17. But with the PreSonus software, I had the help of a studio engineer who also used PreSonus, so I was up and going in a half-hour. I've recorded like 50 songs, covering jazz, blues, rock, heavy metal, salsa, you name it. And there are still many, many terms that I do not fully understand, and bells and whistles I will never use.

Thank you for the confirmation. I was thinking the same thing, that I was hearing my voice via the interface, but we do see evidence of signal getting to the mixer and track. And yes, I get the "do you want to save" pop-up.

I was just hoping that with so MANY Reaper users, someone might be able to go "well, there's your problem" and it would be something simple. As I said, I followed that tutorial video to the letter, but things still aren't working right.

I can't imagine that the PreSonus software - being OFF - could be any kind of a factor.

My initial thought was,"oh, Reaper's not seeing the interface." But it is.

Let's try this. Go to the record button, right click, you will see input mono, make sure the mic you are recording with (input 1 or input 2 labeled on the Audio box) and the checked mark matches the input. If that matches where your mic or instrument is plugged into, then I am at a loss.

Everything lines up. The mic is plugged into Input 1 and that is what is selected on Reaper. It is indeed odd that we should be seeing evidence of signal on the track, but we can't get it down ON the track. >:(

I can't say that I've ever had that happen. I arm a track, set level on my interface, and hit the red RECORD button on the transport controls and off it goes. If you are indeed getting the meters to bounce, then it should record.
