need a good tuner

Hi all

I need a good chromatic/guitar/bass tuner. And no, can't afford a peterson. Any difference between a under $20 and under $50 under $80 tuner other than features? There are too many to choose from.
Korg, Fender, Qwiktune, sabine, Intellitouch, Boss, Yamaha, Guyatone, Seiko.
I want a good one that I will be happy with for many years.
Any recommendations?

I have never cared for the little pocket sized $20 tuners. I use a Korg DTR-2 in my rack. I like the fact that I can see the strobe from accross the room. That and its part of the chain so I dont need to unplug replug stop and start. Just tweek a knob. Never really used many other tuners myself to give a great compare. I stumbled on this one for a hundred bucks and have been happy as a fish in water.
 
Boss TU-12, or the TU-2 (stomp box style)

I actually liked my TU-12 a little better because of its versatility, but it stopped working after some years. The TU-2 is definitely sturdier, but it has no mic to tune acoustics without electronics. If you have no need to tune acoustics, go with the TU-2. Otherwise, the TU-12.

Could someone explain the Buzz Feiten mode of tuning?

Anybody know the differance between the 12 & the 12-H?

nod goes to the TU-2, also powers other boss pedals, nice touch.

Buzz Felt tuning was explained to me as an actual physical mod on guitars in which the nut is repositionrf and some other neck work is done, it sounds like a very precise intonation setup more than anything. To my knowledge it is not something that is simply a tuning that can be done on a tuner.

The people i've talked to who have had it done say it makes a stunning difference in their sound.
 
I have a qwicktune for my bass. its just a little 20 buck one that does wonders. it will tune guitars too. it has the little plug so you can just plug into it and get around the outside noise from those loud guitar players that cant play so they turn up thier amp and distortion. *we all know people like that*

i love my intellitouch one thing though you have to keep your eye on th batteries when they start to go it gets finnicky....put an LSR roller nut on my strat don't need th tuner much anymore once i get it there she stays ......later
 
I second (or third or whatever) the Boss TU-12... (and the TU-2 stomp box). I use the TU-12 and it's a big step up from those little 20 dollar budget tuners. I used to use a Quiktune (or something like that) and hated it. My bro uses the TU-2 on his pedal board and it works great.

I would vote for the TU-2 as well. Personally i cant stand analog ones, I had a Matrix before my boss and liked that too, though it didnt last as long as my boss has. As far as a stage tuner goes,nothign beats a bypass. NO ONE sounds good hitting notes trying to tune a guitar , it adds a little professionism when you mute that out heh.
 
TU-2 for me.

For those who don't have one, it has two output sockets, one is labeled by-pass, the other through.

In the by-pass position, when you stomp on the pedal to tune up, it kills the output to your amp - so you can tune up in complete silence. The LEDs make it particularly useful when tuning in low-light conditions.

On the other hand, the mic in the TU-12 is a very useful feature. I use a MIDI file on my PC or a tuning fork to tune my acoustic.

Boss rocks. Their stuff is road-worthy.

But...I have the Fender PT-10 and it works great for me. It was quite a bit less money than the Boss if I recall. I doubt it will hold up like the Boss though.

I really like the pedal tuner for live gigs. Its great to have confidence that your axe is near perfectly tuned all the time.
