Good comments goin' on here, something is being left out that usually can break up a band, start fights, and DRAMA....girlfriends and wives....hell...just friends and peeps sitting at the band table can cause more problems than an egomaniac lead vocalist....but getting back to musicians, they are all ego heads, if they weren't they wouldn't have the "look at me" mentality to get up on a stage and play, each and every instrument and player has their own problems and inflict them on the band, case in point...I rercently started playing with a band, and I've been playing out for over 4 decades, so....we don't practice, I get to the gig, nothing to work woth except a guitar/singer who wants to start every song with his chords, shit I hate that, click it off drummer, but o'no, the singer gets louder, his guitar and vocals are both pushed up in the mains as the night goes on until there is a low bass rumble coming outta the monitor system, and did I tell ya there a bunch of drunks...except me and the "bass" player, were drinkin' water and watching the drama unfold...yep at the band table...and pretty soon (4th set) the lead guitarist is so drunk he can't hit a barred A chord, now I am sitting there behind my keys wondering why!?! Where does the partying end and the music start...guess not in this band....maybe the singer is hard of hearing, the more he drinks the louder he has to get to hear himself...or actually thinks the mess sounds better...2 weekends of it$ and I quit.
I started out on drums 62' switched to bass 68', started electric guitar 69' and been playing keys for ten years now, and I am a vocalist...when the drama unfolds I am outta there.
