OK, got my new 35102 pre-amp/EQ's in yesterday. I got 'em racked up and started using/testing them today. My first impression is that they are VERY musical, and very discrete, or flat. Of course the EQ can REALLY help with shaping the sound, and what little I have done with them so far, I can tell these are going to be a valuable asset.
BUT, and thats a big BUT, one of the units has some line noise in it. I'm wondering a few things about it:
1.) Do I need to let this vinatge gear warm up a bit before using it?
2.) Should I be using balanced cables with it, or does it matter.
3.) I switched the plugs at the power supply (i.e. swapped the cables over, and the same side still has the noise)
4.) The noise could just be a faulty cable, and I'm off to go get some new ones to try it out.
5.) Should I have the power supply plugged into a different outlet than the monitor's amp?
6.) Has anyone else ever used these? I have a few questions about the parametric EQ.

Thanks in advance for your help.

You'd be way better off asking these questions on RAP, I'm sure.
As for the noise problems, if the cable doesnt clear it up, call/write Brent Averill about it....
I do know that the EQ is considered quite great in those units, and that the pre is pretty good, but not the all out best. Way better than what you had, though.

HUH?
What's RAP?

Oh boy...I'm glad people who don't even know RAP deserve expensive vintage rack gear.

Well, I think you deserve what you work for and not what internet sites you frequent!
I do know rec.audio.pro, just hadn't seen it abreveated like that before. So don't get snooty with me!

If you swap cables using the same cables from unit to unit, and you still have the noise, dont waste time looking for the problem but take it back for tech help.

That is my opinion.

OK, I put new cables, on both units (on the output, which goes from the pre to my AD/DA converter) and the problem is gone!! **phew!**
So either it was a bad cable, or an electro-magnetic anomaly in the time/space continuim. Either way the noise is gone.
Now, on to figuring out how to best implement them... :)
