I know that square walls are a problem, however I could put some sort of absorption material in the corners.

I was thinking of making the floor covering out of parkay or some other laminate product.

The vocal room would be lined with the "eggcarton" stuff, mostly for sound absorption.

What kind of lighting should I use?
What are good mixing speakers?

looks like your control room is not symmetrical around your monitors. doesn't seem very ideal to me. maybe you could put your control room more in the corner ... that could help get rid of parallel walls too

The reason the control room is in the middle is becuase I then get a good view of the entire "recording" room.

I suppose I could move it over to the right and angle it to be on the same angle as the drum's plexiglass.

What would you all sugguest....plexiglass windows or glass?

you've got the idea .... but that looks like an awfully cramped control room. and now you're wasting a bit of space with that little hallway-type thing.

what if you put the drums in the top left, swapped the places of the control room and vocal booth, and made the control room a bit bigger, getting rid of that walkway?

i would still do everything i could to make the control room symmetrical about the mixing position.

here's a very rough idea to consider:

#2 was almost symmetrical, but tiny.

When you sit in front of your monitors, you want the left and right sides of the room to be mirror images of one another

do most of you find it necessary to isolate the drums. I want to be doing mostly "live" recording (with everyone playing at once--don't know the exact term of this) and then re-tracking the instruments that need to be redone.

When everyone is playing together do most find it necessary to isolate the drums in a seperate room?

ie. Should I make a drum room?
