Could you post a sample of your work? I'd like to hear a bunch of 57's slapped on a kit with a nice smiley eq curve on all the tracks. I bet it sounds just like your nick, a big SonicClang.

I was being sarcastic about only using the smiley face eq... It was a very small peice of advice given to me years ago by someone who knew slightly more than me about sound. It got me comfortable with eq, knowing what each band did, and it gave me a better understanding of how to make things sound better. Of course I've moved on to bigger better since. For this instance, the guy knew nothing about eq, I was trying to pass on a little helpful advice. A little less condescension would make things a bit more bearable around here. And I'd really appreciate if the name calling stopped. For a minute there I thought I was high school all over again.

Doom E1M1 remake Here's a sample of some of my work. It's not yet mastered and I'm still working on it. But this is some of my most recent work. This is from my current project. I'm part of a team remaking the original Doom game in the Doom 3 engine. Before joining this team I knew nothing about recording drums. I don't claim to know everything, and will never claim that. I recorded this song about 4 months ago and have since bought a condenser and I'm playing around with using that as one of the overheads. This is with 57's as overheads and on the snare. I've got Senheiser tom mics. A shure beta 52 on the kick.

rimshot, I'm really sorry I hijacked your thread. Please allow me to duck out now.

Small piece of bad advice

Here's some good advice, don't pass on bad advice.

I don't recall any name calling.

Man my computer wont play the clip I would really like to hear it...

Do you have Winamp? Or Foobar 2000. Both free downloads and they'll both play it. I really wish more people used ogg, it's open source. :)

I tend to agree with you on that point. In this mix, the non mastered mix, the cymbols and hihat are a little loud and over powering.

I liked it too... Made me want to shoot zombie soldiers and such...

(See, I'm not always an ass Sonic :D )

Ok, I'm a gamer, so I'm probably the biggest dork here... even though in the gamer world I'm on the low end of dorkiness, so I can say this with a somewhat straight face, it's just good fraggin music. :D Do a quick search for "doom e1m1 midi" and find a copy of the original. You'll probably laugh pretty hard and then want to listen to my version again to compare. I had to remake 10 songs, plus make a menu song, and I'm doing sounds and voice acting for an intro video. It's a huge project. If I hadn't gotten into this project I never would have gotten into recording drums.

And yes earchbounrec, I'm very glad to see you're not always an ass. :) And thanks for the compliment.

I liked it, to me hihat and cymbals werent overbearing but, the snare to me would have been awsome if it was a little louder and had more pop not so dead exspecially for such a heavy song...

I think thats an awsome project that would have been so much fun to do,im a gamer to, so I think its awsome,I would love to do something like that..You did a good job from what I hear....

I thought the hihat was overbearing. Just my opinion.

It is a little loud in comparison to the rest, but I like the sound of it

Dude, where in Oklahoma are you?

I might be able to help you out, I'm in OKC. I think I've got "the ear"...this is from my 2nd recording session ever, that I recorded in my living room. I'm actually recording this band again next week. Give the track a listen and tell me what you think. Keep in mind that:

a) I recorded it in my living room
b) This is from my second recording session ever
c) I have never been to any recording schools
d) I did this with a few alright mics and my computer

Not bad man. Not bad at all. I believe you've got what some people would call "talent". It sounds great at least here at work on my computer speakers.

Sounds real good to me,I live out in the boonys..How do you have your living setup?Did a real good job on that and that band is real good didnt know there were bands like that in Oklahoma most are heavy metal screaming bands....
