Just some very early impressions and a few questions. These were an AEA R84, Royer 121, an Earthworks SR69 sd-cardioid, and ADK A51 ST in fig-8, into RNP's on a female blues/rock singer.

#1 and foremost...:D :D :D ... The high end on both the 84 and the 121 is soooo sweet. One's got to be a keeper. They nail issue #1- a smooth natural choice, and help with #2- size and weight. My previous option for 'smooth and natural' is QTC-1, which it does, but not the weight.
However, also a surprise. Neither seemed to have as much low-end lift (the 'weight and size' thing again) as I expected. (The A51 was "similar") We started at about 24-36", ended up at around 12". (I was expecting 'huge' at several feet...?

On the first two of three songs, the 121 sounded a bit midrangy (800-2k-ish), but we flipped to the backside on the last song and (coincidental to the song???) got a mellower tone that was perfect. The backside is supposed to be brighter?

The SR69 (also behind the same pop screen but W/O the screw-on adaptor) while looking 'flat' on top was actually a bit fizzy. (didn't try QTC-1 this time, but previously, we didn't get that on her.) Also, the low end was too light @ 1'. On this one, I was hoping for a dual-solution -a 'natural' directional SD with proximity, but looks like it's tailored for a closer working distance and I don't want to loose a full sound option @ freefield distance, so...

I know it's early yet, and there's all these other variables (pilot error not being the least of which), but if you got some feedback I'm here to learn.:D :D :D
Feeling like an excited NeuBee again...
