Shaky Tee

Between being and nothing
NO!! IT IS NOT A TECHNO TUNE!!!

I like the sample rendering this software did on my tune, but now I'm having mixing issues. Actually, I'm not even thrilled with this tune. Can someone tell me that it's worth it (or not) to continue working on this?

Topmost song, called Habit

Thanks so much for your indulgence. :)

song has a nice message both sonicly and rhetoricaly. I would hold the tune until you get good control over FL and see how it develops. I admire how far you got with FL. I have it myself, but have spent so much time with Sonar that the few times I`ve worked with it 'twas like swimming in the dark. Yet I have found FL has some enormously powerful synths and drum/percussion options. You got a sweet voice, I sense a warm heart to go with it as well. :)

First, I love ogg, but it's gonna take a while to catch on. Thanks for having the courage to post it for download (it's the version I used to listen to the song ;) ).

I liked the tune, lyrically and musically (in parts). When it "kicks in" I am not convinced that works, but the music with the heavy synth does work, just maybe not in this song. The vocals are nice, and there's a couple whoopsies (about 1:25 there's a drum error). May need a little something in the background to help further fill the music during the verses.

Really not a bad effort, we're always our worse critics. :D

Thanks guys!! :)

Toki, I've had FL for a while, but I've only started playing around with it recently. To say that I'm swimming in the dark here is an understatement. :D

I didn't even do a one instrument at a time thing. Tried to mix the thing in FL, render to a wave, and then sing on top of the wave. Not sure I wanna do that again.

Pinky, thanks for the ogg love. I reencoded my streaming mp3 and uploaded it to my site (32 kbps - yuck)!! If I still get people kvetching about having to get another player to listen to the ogg file (or if they can't listen over a phone line), then I'll just bite the bullet and upload a hi-fi mp3 somewhere...tho' I really don't want to do that...

What's shaking tee?

I certainly wouldn't scrap the song. It's got a cool feel to it. I thought things sounded pretty good for the most part.

I've listened to a couple of your songs and to me the biggest thing I'd work on if I were you would be vocal delivery. You have a strong, clear voice. You've produced songs that support that voice well. But every once in a while you'll let a syllable or two "zing out" and it throws off the balance of the delivery. I've also noticed a tendancy for you to "spice up" the melody near the end of a line. Sometimes, I think it would sound nicer if you simply held a note in place.

Just my thoughts... Trip

Hey Trip!!

Thanks! :)

As for my singing, I was taking vocal lessons and doing the musical theatre thing for a while. I stopped that several years ago, and am now starting up again. My problem with all of that is that I seemed to have forgotten some of what I learned. My process in regaining control of my instrument has been a struggle, to be sure (and it's not getting easier, as I get older), but lord knows, I'm trying. :)

I guess my excuse is that I'm still working with breath control (well, I've ALWAYS had a problem with breath control). It's affected my ability to hold a note confidently, which leads to my tendency to "spice up" the melody.

One day...

I think regaining control will come back with practice. You're never too old to do anything. Never admit defeat.

I always admire your work Shaky Tee! The lyrics are beautiful, except it seems like the song needs a chours or something to anchor it maybe. You have a great voice and should be proud. I know what you mean about singing with confidence, it's my greatest downfall. I really enjoyed the synth sounds, I am always partial to strings and effects. I know nothing about FL so I can't help you there. Don't give up on the tune, you're doing great!

Hey Langley!

Thanks, I guess I'm getting tired of being a Work-In-Progress, but hey, life would be no fun if there was no room for improvement. :)
