MSR-16 head block (should I?????)

that is a very good price if it is in good shape. those are hard to find, i would grab it if i were you. I am in the search for a heads for my MS-16, harder to find apparently too.
 
Looks like worth taking the chance since he has a 14 day return on it. It's hard to tell by the photos what kind of shape its in. There could be a good bit of uneven wear and some of the tracks could be open, but that's only if what I'm seeing is not glare from the photo. You can only be sure once its in your hand. I bought what was represented to be as a low-use headstack for a 38 sometime ago. Turned out the center head had about 40% left on it and the repro head had several tracks with the gaps opened up so it was unusable. The guides had also been turned so they looked smooth and new facing forward, but the seller was good about it.

The uneven wear I'm talking about is the classic widening at one end or the other. In this case it looks wider at the bottom so you have a slight cone shape with the bottom wider than the top. That tells you that the head has seen some hours. Dark vertical lines indicate that some of the head gaps may be open, but again it could be glare from the photo.

This seller has been around for a long time. I've actually messaged him and asked him if could he please learn to use paragraphs and punctuation because his listings give me a freakin' headache. His prices for most things are criminal... but he has 100% feedback, so if there's a problem he probably does whatever he can to keep that good rating. I personally will never buy from him because he's one of the people who bought all the stock from Tascam parts so he can sell it for three times the price of what Tascam did. On the other hand when a rare item like this comes up one must do what one must do. :)
 
Thanks Tim. I already have a spare 16 track head, that isn't "new" but I had it relapped so it is "like new" with 80% life left per JRF. So I don't need it although having the block and erase head would be nice. I may see if it doesn't sell and the price comes down...

I am pretty sure I've bought something from this seller at some point. I just can't remember.
 
Well, I snoozed on this one, and somebody bought it after the price dropped to $160.00. I do already have a spare head, so it wasn't a high priority... congrats to the buyer!
