reformatted the card, reinstalled the mr-8 software on the mr-8, everything

manning, the mr-8 is compatible with both, but Im using 2.0 on the computer. I am just wondering what would cause it to only skip the last part of the files. I have tried rerecording the song, completely wiping the previous file out. Still skips.

brad. on the pc end ...dumb question - but got to be asked.
i wonder if some setting is set up in win to limit file transfer sizes to a certain limit when using usb. i might be wrong.
i could find scant info on the specific implementation on usb in the mr8.
if it stops at the same time each time, it makes me wonder if its a setting on the pc end. ie...the file gets to Xmb on the pc then cuts off. see what i mean ? is the file time the same each time ? before it skips ? thanks.

ya, its the same time, every time. You have any ideas on where this could be happening?

then its got to be a setting on the pc end possibly.
somethings timing out in the transfer.
i would also ask fostex.
each i second 44.1 sample at 16 bits is 88kbytes approx file storage per second.
for mono. for stereo double it.
so - you do the math for 2.38.
.
do you have some setting on the pc or even mr8 set to space meg limit ?
ie..a file size limit ??

not that I know of, where would I find that?

i was assuming (i dont know the mr8, never used it) that you had installed mr8 specific software on the pc from fostex to do the transfer.
are there settings in that ? or on the mr8 itself ?

also if you go in device manager in win to your usb propertis button there is a box...disable usb properties. maybe win is detecting a usb error
in the transfer and terminating the transfer. perchance do you have
any other usb devices on the usb bus operating at the same time as the tranfer is occurring - say a usb mouse or something else ?
that might interfere ??

What size cf card are you using? how long is the total track length of the song? I had this problem with the 128 card that came with the mr8. I upgraded to a 512, it went away.

good idea rokket. i was assuming he would be using a bigger storage.
but the file is so small. !! weird ! you would think the 128 wouldnt be a problem.

Any song you do over 4 minutes on the 128 card gives me problems. Even if it's only a couple tracks. And it will stop recording during bouncing down after 4:01. It's because the wave files are so big, and the MR-8 is creating 2 wave files everytime you record, so that you can use the redo/undo feature. It becomes a pain in the ass to work around. Also, you have to be careful which card you do upgrade to. Unless you updated the software to the latest patches on the Fostex site, not all cards will work. It's best to buy one of the cards they suggest on the site. That's if they are available to you. The MR-8 is nice, but every day I find out more and more of its limitations. Still a good machine for the price.... if they keep coming out with upgrades, it should be solid in a year or two. I noticed they are available now in black, so if you buy a new one, it should be upgrade already, I would think.

even on a 3 minute song, whether I use the fostex drivers (where you have to bounce it down to a stereo track on the unit) or if I transfer via wavmanager, the final product, (either track 7/8 mixdown, or tracks 1, 2, 3, 4, etc) all skip at the same time.

I think your card is f*('d. You may have to buy another one. It shouldn't be doing that if you did everything right. Get another card and see if it goes away.

i agree rokket. if theres no reported known design faults in the mr8 ,
then its got to be the card.

got a new 512 card, and im sure it is compatable, based on the " MR-8 and CF upgrade cards - User Experiences " thread.

mr8 etc

Hi again mate
That sounds great to me. I FINALLY manage to put my song onto the stereo WAV tracks on 7 and 8,,and gotthem onto the pc. Amazingly ive never done that before, and have always recorded normal 7 and 8 tracks onto MD,,THEN back onto the MR8 to add stuff again. So i got the song finished and im very happy with it.I even tried emailing Flavio at NTRacks again about all my problems with the programme not working properly, and all the button son the screen being out of line etc,and he actually mailed me back this time. Soive got the Versio 4 installed now and deleted the old one.i STILL have no idea how to use it of course but at least this one should work properly if i ever do.
ive no idea what my soundcard is mate, but ive never had the slightest bit of luck recording ANYTHING into the pc using the linein input. i got a programme called Audio Cleaning Lab with th eintention of putting some vinyl onto the pc etc,,but no luck there either.Im bloody useless ta such things. So,,,,,is Nowhere Radio still on the go,,
or is there anywhere else i can post my last song mate?

JimmyD ;)

I'm lost. I guess you should contact Fostex and let them know what is up. Maybe you have a defective machine? I don't know what else to try.... :(

this ones stumped me as well.
all i can think of is brad got an early machine with an early OS version running the mr8. maybe the mr8 has been updated or its OS (operating system). sorry i couldnt help further brad.
