MR8 file transfer.

Hi,

My brother is visiting, from out of town, and happened to bring his MR8 along with him. He hasn't had internet capability for quite some time, and I happened to find & download the Wavmanager program for him. I have Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 on my system and we desired to transfer his files into the program. Cakewalk wouldn't allow this. We had to transfer each file to a folder on my computer, then have Cakewalk insert them - in singular fashion - into each track section. But isn't there a way in which all recorded (selected) tracks could be transferred and simultaneously routed in one step? He has SONAR ver 2.0 on his home system.

I have also read, here, that many MR8 owners are having great success with N-Tracks. Would it be that this program would permit what we are hoping for? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
Sorry, I don't know squat about Cakewalk, but N-track is VERY easy to transfer files to, though you still have to open them individually... After they are opened in N, and saved there, all changes will be 'remembered', simply click on the N song file (.sng I think) and all track previously opened will again open.

I have only used n-track so I don't know this for certain, but I would bet that you cannot transfer tracks from the MR8 directly into a program. You transfer them like you said and open them one by one with the multi-track program you have. When you get all of the tracks opened you then save the song and from then on just click on that song file and there you go.
 
You can highlight ALL the wavs in a particular folder in N-tracks and import them all at one time using the "import wave file" function".

As far as your original question.I dont know of ANY program that will let you hook straight up to a unit like the mr-8 and work with wav files straight from the storage drive of the recorder.

You MUST download all wav files onto the PC in order to work with them with software on the PC.Until the wavs are downloaded onto your pc,they dont exist as far as your pc editing software is concerned.
 
I find having the tracks in one folder an advantage. They serve as a backup if you lose your tracks on the MR8 or in your software. You can always go back to your original recording. These folders can be burned to cd and opened up again when your brother goes home along with any mixes or sub mixes done on your pc. These files can also be exported from pc to Mr8 via wav manager.
 
I wish to thank each & every one of you for taking the time to respond to my query. I did know that the files would have to be transferred to the computer, first, before negotiating any other travel into a particular program. It wouldn't be a huge "to-do" for my brother to move his files into his program - SONAR 2.0 - in singular manner, but he did mention that it would be a little better if he could be able to transfer multiple files at the same time. If Cakewalk PA9 affords that capability, I sure couldn't find how to go about doing it. And I am reasonably sure that SONAR just may follow suit, in that respect, being that it is a Cakewalk product. But he will check that program out, in depth, when he returns home. In the worst-case scenario, though, he will be able to purchase the N-Track program which, I read in one of the above posts, is supposed to allow for just what he is looking for.

Back again, and just wanted to say that I downloaded the trial version of N-Track for a look-see, and was quite impressed with all that appeared to be 'under-the-hood' with this program - especially with a selling price of $45. The multiple file transfer worked, just as Kramer stated (not that I doubted you, buddy, I just wanted to kick-the-tires myself). The one strange thing about it was this: eight tracks were simultaneously transferred into the program, but the order read as follows - 8,1,2,3,4,5,6,7.
Why this happened, I have absolutely no clue. Maybe it is something that I will be able to iron out after deeper exploration of the program. This, also, is no real biggie. But if someone knows the recipe for defeating it, please share. All in all, though, N-Tracks seems to be a very well endowed program, and I am sure that my brother will be making a purchase of it.

Yeah that one threw me for a loop also when I first bought N-tracks.To get them to line up in the correct numeric order just highlight all the wav files in a folder in "reverse order" during the "import wav" command.They'll line up in the correct order in which the tracks are numbered doing it that way.

Sorry that it took so long, replying to your last post, but I have been fighting a flooded basement battle. With the tools of my other love (woodworking) stationed there, I'd been pretty busy getting things squared away.

Just a short while before receiving your message, something told me to try a reverse-order file selection, and see if that would somehow work. Sure enough (as you know) it did. My brother really liked what he saw, in N-Tracks, and is on his way back to Missouri with a burned copy of that evaluation version in his possession. He will be ordering the full version within the next few days, and wanted me to thank everyone for their help.
