Banana has 512mb cf on sale, but it's not the ...mba, it's the ...mma. Not compatible on high quality mode.

What's the latest on CF's? Any news, like compatible 1 gig cards?

I've been so busy I haven't yet had a chance to try bouncing tracks yet but I will as soon as I can get something recorded. Sorry about the delay folks!

Sooooo....

How did it go????

Calling 1 gig cards...

Oh well, it was time for a *bump* anyway, it was about to slip off the front page...

512 CF card

I ordered the Samsung/Toshiba 512 card from MemorySuppliers.com. The order came in about 3 days but when I opened it, it was a Kingston 512 CF card. Boy was I ticked! Took it home put it in my MR8 and it displays Toshiba on boot up and works perfect! Even bouncing tracks 1-6 > 7/8
Price $89 plus $4.95 s&h.

That's good info. I've been looking for that. I heard of someone else ending up with a Kingston for another card, but I don't remember them confirming that it bounced all. And I guess you bounced on high quality mode?

That's a deal at that price, never heard of the site, I'll check it out.

Does the display show the whole model number for the card? and does it match one on the Fostex confirmed list?

Toshiba / Samsung / Kingston 512 cf card

yes, i was using the normal mode 44KHz...it works great....go figure...I bought a 256 Simpletech at Sam's some time ago...it is confirmed but wouldn't bounce the tracks. Thankfully, I returned it with no hassles.

MemorySuppliers.com

I ordered the same one a few days ago, I hope it works O.K.
On there website, it has the Fostex MR-8 listed as compatable for the C.F. Card.

Samsung/Toshiba/Kingston 512 CFcard

I went back to their web site last night just out of curiosity. The link I posted will get you to their website but you'll have to navigate to find the right card. I believe it had gone up in price since I ordered. $97 now. But its a winner!

OK, new burner this weekend. Then the next move is a card upgrade. So if anyone wants to post thier latest findings I would appreciate it. I gotta tell ya I love that little MR-8.

I have the Apacer Photo STENO Pro 512 and it has been working like a champ.

Fast and reliable.

And yes! The MR8 ROCKS!

I have been using the Simple Tech, 512mb for about 3 months and it works very well. I don't bounce tracks though so I can't comment on that. I take the wave files into my computer and combine tracks there.

Has anybody tried the new 1 gig and above CF hard drives? these are currently coming up 4 or 5 gigs in size and are powered from the host appliance.

Regards, Steve

I bought the Apacer Photo STENO Pro 512 from these guys http://www.memorylabs.net

It looks like they are not selling the pro at this time but the regular Steno 512 is listed (which is also on the Fostex approved list) here http://www.memorylabs.net/ap51coflstca.html

How much was your shipping from memorylabs.net? They want to charge me $20 for "FedEx Saver" shipping, or $18.75 for FedEx ground from California to North Carolina! It's a little tiny memory card that weighs nothing...they're nuts! I shipped a 10 pound guitar to California for less than $10 with FedEx. Where do they get off charging so much to ship a practically weightless card?! Errrrr :(

Well, I don't know about memory labs, but I just ordered a card from memory suppliers and the USPS shipping was $5 and if you wanted ups ground it was $7.50.

They actually listed the Fostex MR-8 as a compatible, other device - other than pda's or cameras. So maybe, I'll finally get it right this time. Or I'll have to keep taking thousands of digital pictures with all of my non-compatible Fostex cards that work in my digital camera.

That's what I did w/ my older incompat card, I got a dig cam that takes cf and used it in there. Cannon A60, a really great camera, btw.... now they have A70, 75 and it's the same body....

Is there any particular reason you chose the MemorySuppliers card (Toshiba/Samsung) over the MemoryLabs card (Apacer Steno Pro)? The Apacer card is 26x compared to the 24x Toshiba/Samsung, and it's $3 cheaper.

By the way, I figured out the shipping issue...they have a list of 8 or 10 shipping options, and it's the very bottom one that's not FedEx that is actually FREE! So it's $86, free shipping, and no tax for the Apacer Pro card! The Toshiba/Samsung card is $89 plus 4.95 or so for shipping, right?

!!!

Arggghhhhhh!!!!

Recording tonight. Other stuff on card. Finally had a good take, everything was as near to perfect as I am capable of.

RAN OUT OF DAMNED SPACE ON MY 256 CARD!!!

Any 1 gig cards approved/successfully used yet (bounce and all I mean)?

No, not really, besides I thought you were paying $20 for shipping!:)
Plus I heard/read good things. And Toshiba is also the stock brand cf.
A few bucks no big deal, and they said no problem w/ compatability problems, etc. I guess if I didn't order, I'd go look at the labs. Did you order it, I figure you did. Hope we both get compat, error free cfs....

Well junplugged, you made the right choice! Turns out MemoryLabs doesn't even have the Apacer card in stock even though they claim to on their webpage! Errrrr :( I look forward to hearing how the Toshiba one works!
